Monster Hunter fans lose their minds as Monster Hunter Wilds confirms Lagiacrus will return this summer, finally answering 7 years of prayers

At last, we achieved our goal! What we accomplished was relentlessly persuading Capcom until they added Lagriacus to the Monster Hunter Wilds universe.

In Monster Hunter Tri, Lagiacrus served as the main featured monster (the one prominently displayed on the game’s cover and carrying significant narrative weight). Its presence perfectly demonstrated the game’s key feature: underwater combat. However, since this underwater aspect was removed in subsequent generations of games, Lagiacrus has faced challenges adapting to life outside the sea.

In both Monster Hunter Generations and its enhanced edition, Generations Ultimate, it briefly appeared, though not with much fanfare. Initially, it seemed destined for Monster Hunter World, but it was ultimately removed from the game during the development process.

Although it hasn’t been the main focus, the monster continues to hold its ground and garner popularity, securing third place in Capcom’s Hunters’ Choice poll for the series’ 20th anniversary. This fan support has proven fruitful, as Capcom has announced that Lagiacrus will be joining the game during summer 2025, as showcased at the end of the Monster Hunter Wilds Title Update 1 presentation.

In brief glimpses, the teaser started with the sound of water splashing, followed by a huge monster carcass being dropped to the ground and ominous claws seizing it. To leave no doubt, a watery backdrop emerged, displaying the text ‘Summer 2025’.

In this new installment, it remains intriguing as to how Capcom plans to approach the battle with the monster. Although underwater combat is no longer an option, the strategy for a more unconventional fight, as seen in Monster Hunter Wilds, is still possible. Given that the Lagiacrus appears to be in its natural habitat – the Scarlet Forest – it’s not unlikely that we might see the return of its distinctive trait from the Uth Duna fight, where the beast can retreat into water and players can bring it back by collapsing debris upon it.
