Monster Hunter Wilds has already revealed its first free update, and it’s adding one of my all-time favorite monsters this spring

Approaching its release on February 28, game developer Capcom unveiled the initial free upgrade for Monster Hunter Rise (Action Role-Playing Game) at their February State of Play event. They confirmed that a much-loved monster will be available in the spring.

In the spring, Wilds’ initial free content expansion will introduce the lively giant creature, Mizutsune, along with further updates and assorted event quests.

In previous games like Monster Hunter Generations, Mizutsune was one of the four main monsters introduced. More recently, it appeared in Monster Hunter Rise. Over time, it has undergone several variations. Currently, we’ve only learned that its original form is set to appear in Wilds.

Historically, components from the Mizutsune have been utilized to create potent water-based weapons, and its graceful armor sets modeled after shrine maidens have garnered quite a fanbase over time. It’s visually stunning, it offers an enjoyable battle experience with a wide variety of weapon options, and its distinct slime-like affliction is more amusing than bothersome, making it challenging to find a better introduction for Wilds’ extended post-release narrative.

As we get closer to its launch, further information is gradually emerging. Yuya Tokuda, the game’s director, mentioned that the game’s traditional RPG feel was more of a natural progression rather than a deliberate design choice. Additionally, he hinted that the endgame bosses may be particularly challenging as the developers aim to prevent players from easily overpowering them. In a playful manner, Tokuda also suggested that some players might not even realize they were interacting with him directly during gameplay.
