This past weekend saw Steam set a new record, with Monster Hunter Rise significantly contributing to this achievement by reaching the fifth spot among all-time highest concurrent players for games on the platform. On Saturday alone, more than 1.3 million users were engaged in the action-adventure game, aiming to hunt mythical beasts. It’s important to note that these figures exclude players using PS5 and Xbox Series X|S systems.
For the very first time in its history, Steam boasted more than 40 million users simultaneously on Sunday. This new record sets their maximum online users at a precise figure of 40,263,524. To give you an idea about numbers, Monster Hunter Rise saw a staggering 1,384,608 players concurrently using Valve’s platform on Saturday, as per SteamDB. Monster Hunter Rise currently ranks among the top five games in Steam’s list of all-time peak concurrent player records, trailing only behind PUBG, Black Myth: Wukong, Palworld, and Counter-Strike 2.

In August, Black Myth: Wukong ranked as the second most-played game simultaneously on Steam, boasting over 2.2 million players. Approximately a year ago, Palworld also surpassed the 2 million mark for simultaneous players on Steam, making it only the second game ever to achieve this feat on Valve’s platform, with PUBG still holding the record at 3.2 million players.
Monster Hunter Wilds debuted recently on February 28 and had a fantastic opening on PC. It surpassed previous Steam records for the series, even outperforming Monster Hunter World which didn’t have simultaneous console releases like Wilds did. On its release day, Wilds attracted more players than Elden Ring and Cyberpunk 2077. However, while it’s been quite popular, some PC gamers have encountered performance problems with the action-adventure game, resulting in a mix of reviews on Steam. Monster Hunter now stands as Capcom’s second most successful franchise ever.
