Hunters will have their adorable Felyne friends come with them in Monster Hunter Wilds while out on the fields doing quests and explorations. Having them around already gives you some real-life moral boost, but they are also quite handy helpers with their own equipment sets and support moves.
There are a total of 12 Palico skills available, with some of them already unlocked by default and can be used immediately. However, there are some like the Plunderang skill that require you to complete a quest before it becomes available.
In this guide, you will learn about how the Palico Rath-from-Above support move works and how to unlock it.
What Is the Palico Rath-from-Above Skill?
The Skyward Rath is a defensive Palico ability that enables your cat companion to shield you with fiery protection. As the game describes, “With much pride, Gemma and I have perfected our creation: Skyward Rath! Now I can offer protective fire. I may even bring down a wyvern in flight!
You’ll witness your Palico soaring on a compact hot-air balloon, continuously attacking monsters, while you simultaneously engage in fierce combat using top-tier equipment from the game.

How to Get the Palico Rath-from-Above Skill
As a fan eagerly diving into the action, to acquire the Palico skill titled “Rath-from-Above,” I’ll have to embark on an Optional Quest named “Rath-from-Above, Go!”. To unlock this mission, I must progress through Chapter 4 and successfully complete a Side Mission called “Flash Course.
At any base camp’s tent, you should chat with your Palico, who serves as your quest provider. Upon talking to them, you’ll discover they’ve been developing a fresh prototype that could aid you during battles.
The task details indicate: “Kindly track down the Quematrice spotted around the village! I’m ready to assist with the Rath-from-Above as well. It’s my first time using this, so I’m not sure if it will be effective – but I’ll do my best!
You will be hunting a Quematrice in Windwards Plains so you will either defeat or capture the monster. Both will count as quest completion. Fail conditions include time expiration (the time limit is 50 minutes) and fainting 3 times.

After completing the quest, you must speak to your Palico again at the tent. You need to wait for them to reach their destination before you can talk to them. Once done, you will then receive the new Palico support move “Rath-from-Above.” Let your Palico fire away at the monsters with the new Palico skill!
There are 4 other Palico support moves that you can acquire through the completion of Optional Quests. Be sure to read our guides for other skills including the Vigorwasp Revival, which is a lifesaver.
