The initial free update for Monster Hunter Wilds has dominated most people’s weekend schedules, except for those who are engrossed in Assassin’s Creed: Shadows or South of Midnight.
Since Title Update 1 kicked off last Friday, an increasing number of players have returned to their thrilling Wilds journey, eagerly seeking out fresh, formidable beasts such as the mighty Zoh Shia’s advanced form and the elegant water-dwelling monster, Mizutsune.
Unaware of it, the Leviathan proved to be a significantly tougher battle compared to the crafted equivalent of an Ancient Dragon.
In contrast to the Mizutsune we encountered previously in Monster Hunter Generations and Monster Hunter Rise, the one found in the Wilds is significantly more menacing. This updated version amplifies the danger by incorporating traits from its Deviant forms, particularly the Soulseer Mizutsune, making it a formidable adversary indeed.
When Mizutsune transitions to its second form and adopts Soulseer’s abilities, the battle dynamics shift significantly. It deals more damage, releases an excessive amount of bursting bubbles, and possesses a crushing one-tailed attack capable of knocking out even fully upgraded hunters. With Defense Values ranging from 350 to 400 (considered top tier), the pink Leviathan can still fell you in a single blow, much like Fatalis.
In Monster Hunter Wilds, the standard Mizutsune is quite a challenge. But picture this: The Tempered version has even more health and does more damage. This is why many players are content with the regular version and avoiding the Tempered one. However, for those who are prepared to see the “Quest Failed” screen in record time, the Tempered Mizutsune might be worth a try.

The problem lies in the fact that Zoh Shia, though tough, doesn’t come with a Tempered version; it’s only the regular one. On the other hand, Mizutsune delivers more damage and requires more time to defeat, making it one of the most challenging fights in this update.
It seems like some folks found Monster Hunter Rise too simple, isn’t that true? Well, it appears that Capcom is addressing this perception.
As a passionate fan, I’m thrilled to share that Title Update 1 is merely the commencement of Capcom’s live-service strategy for Monster Hunter Rise. Exciting updates are on the horizon, with the iconic Lagiacrus making its comeback this summer, and an even greater challenge in the form of tougher monsters arriving with Title Update 1.5 next month.
