Ever since its release, players of Monster Hunter Wilds on PC have been fine-tuning the game, adjusting performance and settings to suit their preferences. Interestingly enough, some enthusiasts even delved deep into the configuration files, uncovering a typo that they hypothesized could potentially boost their stats.
Over the weekend (thanks to Kotaku for the find), within the configuration file of Monster Hunter Wilds, there’s an entry where “Resolution” is incorrectly spelled as “Resoltuion”. The original Steam poster claimed that correcting this typo led to a noticeable improvement in performance, although they also mentioned that it caused their processor temperature to increase dramatically, rising from 50 degrees Celsius to 70.
A discussion on Reddit was initiated, in which the initial poster reported experiencing a slight performance boost from approximately 120 frames per second (FPS) using Frame Gen to about 140 FPS. The OP admitted that it might have been mere coincidence, but expressed satisfaction as they managed to increase their FPS somehow, suggesting further testing is required for confirmation.
Currently, multiple contributors have shared some words of warning and common sense: altering this specific factor might lead to an outcome that’s entirely unintended. One Redditor explained, “Changing the name could simply reset it to a default value that is lower than its previous state, thus resulting in improved performance.
Another user said it’s a placebo. The executable contains the same typo, so it actually refers to a specific node. “By ‘fixing’ the typo, that makes the game not find this one specific config key/value, so perhaps [its] defaulting to some other value,” the responder said.
Of course, there are arguments challenging the validity of the placebo effect. However, without an official statement from Capcom, these points may be misleading or irrelevant. Therefore, it is wise to exercise caution when exploring configuration files or any crucial sections of a game’s core files.
Enthusiastic Monster Hunter Wilds players’ eagerness to learn about correcting typos suggests their strong desire for game performance improvements. The topic of PC optimization has been a hot debate among Monster Hunter Wilds gamers, with social media posts about fixing a progress-halting bug even receiving comments requesting general optimizations.
Monster Hunter World’s player base remains robust, with Capcom’s latest installment setting new records for the series and Steam marketplace. Given its widespread appeal, let’s hope for some adjustments in the coming weeks and months, even if there are a few typos here and there. Anticipated updates for Monster Hunter World include an April title update, which will introduce a new endgame zone for resource gathering and additional monster hunting adventures for players to explore.
