Monster Hunter Wilds: Sandstar Endemic Life Location & Guide

In the Monster Hunter Wilds, you’ll discover a captivating assortment of creatures, each tailored perfectly to its specific habitat. The Forbidden Lands are home to more than 80 distinct species, some of which you may recognize, such as Vigorwasps, Paratoads, and Dung Beetles. However, the unexplored regions of Wilds hide elusive endemic life that can be challenging to locate unless you know exactly where to search.

One such creature is the Sandstar, an elusive endemic lifeform tied to Samin’s Research Side-Quest.

Here’s where to find the Sandstar and how to capture it:

1. The Quest Giver is at the Windward Plains Base Camp

Among several explorers accompanying you to the Prohibited Realms, Samin is one of them. He’s teamed up with another researcher named Dareel, and they’re engaged in a playful rivalry regarding who can catch the most elusive native species. This amusing subplot will present itself organically as you advance through the game.

After finishing sufficient tasks for both researchers, have a conversation with Samin, and he’ll propose that you catch the Sandstar.

2. Head to the Desert Area at Night

The Sandstar predominantly inhabits the Desert Region within the Windward Plains, and if you’re surrounded by sand, you’ve likely found the right spot. However, keep in mind that this peculiar star-like creature is visible exclusively during the nighttime hours.

As you draw near, pay attention for a sparkling sound and observe for flashes in the distance. Use binoculars to determine if the creature appears similar to a white-furred rabbit with an elongated tail and pointed ears. If so, congratulations! You’ve found the Sandstar! However, capturing it will be challenging: good luck!

3. Prepare a Ghillie Mantle and Sonic Bombs

Catching the elusive Sandstar using a Capture Net demands plenty of persistence. Being quick and skittish, it easily scatters if you get too near, even by a few feet. And let me tell you, it’s swift!

To outsmart the Sandstar, consider employing a Ghillie Mantle if effective and carrying a couple of Sonic Bombs to throw it off balance due to its enhanced hearing. However, neither tactic is foolproof since the Sandstar moves incredibly swiftly. The only way I succeeded in capturing it was by using my Seikret as transportation, pursuing it from one end of the map to another, and seizing the opportune moment to unfurl my Capture Net. Rest assured, it won’t vanish; instead, it will keep running. Once you close in enough, boom! You’ll have it trapped.

And that’s how you capture the Sandstar!
