Monument Records to Fold Eight Years After Revival

Monument Records, known for its roster of country artists such as Walker Hayes, Brandon Ratliff, and Tigirlily Gold, has announced it will be closing down, according to confirmation from Sony Music.

Tigirlily Gold is transitioning to Sony Music Nashville, but it’s unclear what will happen with the rest of Monument Records’ artists for now. The majority of the team is leaving, and the ongoing operations of Monument Records will be managed by Sony Music Nashville according to their statement.

Eight years ago, veteran country music executive and talent manager Jason Owen co-founded Monument alongside producer Shane McAnally, according to The Tennessean’s previous reports. As revealed by The Hollywood Reporter on Sunday, Owen – who also manages artists like Kacey Musgraves and Kelsea Ballerini through his firm Sandbox – has now added Billie Eilish and Finneas to his roster as their manager. Sandbox will continue its partnership with Sony Music, the company stated.

Katie McCartney, who has been serving as the manager of Monument, is moving on to a different position that she plans to reveal shortly. She assumed her role as Monument’s manager in 2020. Prior to this, she held positions at UMG Nashville and Sony Music Nashville.

Initially, Country Aircheck broke the news about Monument’s shutdown. This record label was initially established in 1958 and was instrumental in housing some of Roy Orbison’s iconic tunes, such as “In Dreams” and “Oh, Pretty Woman.” Notably, Monument also took on artists like Kris Kristofferson and Dolly Parton.

After its resurgence in 2017, Monument’s most significant achievement might be the viral sensation “Fancy Like” by Hayes. This tune skyrocketed to become a massive country music crossover smash, with Applebee’s even incorporating it into their advertisements. To date, “Fancy Like” has been certified six times platinum.
