As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I’ve seen more than my fair share of leaks and rumors about upcoming consoles. However, the recent flood of Nintendo Switch 2 details has left me both excited and slightly skeptical. The consistent alignment of leaked information from various sources adds a layer of credibility that I can’t ignore.
With the dust now settled on this year’s The Game Awards, there’s been a surge of credible information and leaks about the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. From detailed descriptions and images that align with an earlier leaked prototype, it appears that Nintendo is struggling to contain the flood of Switch 2 specifications circulating online.
A user on the r/NintendoSwitch2 community has apparently given the moderators solid proof regarding the name and details of Nintendo’s upcoming next-gen console. One piece of information from the leaker suggests that the console will be called “Nintendo Switch 2,” as indicated by the labeling on the device itself.
There are going to be three distinct versions of the device, one resembling the initial Switch in a darker shade of gray, another entirely white, and a third featuring a design based on a game with the digit “9” prominently displayed.
Fans speculate that the third model might be based on Mario Kart 9, Resident Evil 9, or F-Zero 9.
Beyond a bigger display and controls, the leak has revealed an additional feature of the Switch 2 – it will have the Joy-Cons magnetically affixed to the tablet screen, and there will be larger back buttons designed specifically for releasing the Joy-Cons.
A newly surfaced video showing a model of the upcoming Nintendo Switch suggests that its Joy-Con controllers will be bigger than those on the original console. Interestingly, this video and details leaked from Reddit seem to match up, strengthening the case that these leaks could indeed be accurate information about the device’s design.
I stumbled upon some additional images floating around the web, apparently hailing from Chinese production houses. These snaps seem to corroborate the features hinted at in the alleged Nintendo Switch 2 concept video.
Although some consider these leaks as potential official announcements, possibly in February 2025 as suggested by rumors, others express doubt regarding the authenticity of the leaks and images circulating on the internet.
As a passionate admirer of Nintendo’s innovative gaming devices, I can’t help but express my hopeful thoughts about the future. While some speculate that hall-effect sticks might not be part of Nintendo’s plans, if they are determined to learn from their past errors and strive for improvement, then hall-effect Joy-Cons could be a game-changing feature in their next-generation consoles.
