Mortal Kombat 1 Khaos Reigns story expansion adds surprising guest characters

As a longtime fan of Mortal Kombat, I am beyond excited about the latest addition to the roster with the Khaos Reigns expansion. The reveal at Comic-Con was nothing short of epic, and I can hardly contain my enthusiasm as we welcome Ghostface, T-1000, Terminator 2’s Robert Patrick, Arnold Schwarzenegger as Conan the Barbarian, Noob Saibot, Cyrax, and Sektor to Mortal Kombat 1.

I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be encountering some fresh faces in the Mortal Kombat arena soon! In fact, the number of newcomers is quite impressive with the arrival of Khaos Reigns expansion for Mortal Kombat 1 from NetherRealm Studios.

Since the introduction of Freddy Krueger and Kratos in Mortal Kombat 9 back in 2011, the Mortal Kombat series has become renowned for featuring guest fighters. And Mortal Kombat 1 is following suit, with Omni-Man, Peacemaker, and Homelander joining the lineup.

Mortal Kombat’s Kgaos Reigns expansion adds new characters

At San Diego Comic-Con, NetherRealm unveiled its fresh roster of Mortal Kombat 1 characters in a bustling event. The newest update includes the terrifying Ghostface from Scream, portrayed by the legendary Robert Patrick in Terminator 2: Judgement Day, and Arnold Schwarzenegger’s iconic Conan the Barbarian.

In addition to Noob Saibot, Cyrax, and a Sektor, these six new fighters join the roster in the Khaos Reigns expansion story. They will make their appearance after September 24 and are available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC (accessible through Steam and the Epic Games Store).

As a longtime fan of Mortal Kombat, I’ve witnessed numerous transformations and updates to the game’s characters over the years. However, the recent announcement about Kaiji Tang’s new role as Noob Saibot and the gender-flipped voices of Sektor and Cyrax caught my attention in a unique way.

Warner Bros. Interactive describes Khaos Reigns as a fresh cinematic experience, initiated when a menacing force emerges from an alternate timeline, headed by the powerful Titan Havik. These newly introduced characters possess distinctive pasts that enrich the revamped Mortal Kombat 1 Universe.

Previously, Arnie gave us his version of the Terminator character in Mortal Kombat 11. Now it’s time for T2’s antagonist to make an entrance. Patrick himself has contributed his voice and likeness to the character Khaos Reigns. Although Roger L. Jackson, who voices Ghostface, can be heard in MK1, Schwarzenegger doesn’t lend his voice to Conan. Luckily, we still get to see the former Governor of California in action as Conan.

We were just as let down that the guest fighters for MK1 were unveiled beforehand, with a significant datamine leak in June ruining the element of surprise. Similar to how we knew Homelander and company would eventually join the roster but waited for the official announcement from the studio.

We’re looking forward to the arrival of Cyrax, Noob Saibot, and Sektor on September 24. However, there’s no announced date for our famous guest appearances. Nevertheless, with Ghostface poised to inflict gore, we can’t wait to discover the gruesome finishing moves this Scream icon has prepared for us.
