As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming under my belt, I must admit that the addition of Ghostface from the Scream franchise to Mortal Kombat 1 is a stroke of genius! Growing up, I remember the terror and excitement of each new Scream movie release, and now, seeing this iconic horror figure join the roster of an already action-packed game is nothing short of thrilling.
In the original version, it says that “Mortal Kombat 1” already has a strong lineup of guest characters such as Peacemaker, Omni-Man, and Homelander. As for the ongoing “Khaos Reigns” event, more new figures are anticipated to join the cast.
As a hardcore gamer, I can’t help but get excited about the latest reveal – it’s none other than Ghostface, straight outta the Scream universe! This iconic slasher is set to join the roster in our favorite fighting game, and I can’t wait to see how he plays. The developers at NetherRealm have dropped some hints about his gameplay mechanics, and it looks like a chilling experience is in store for us!
Gameplay for Ghostface Revealed
While only one Ghostface typically targets individuals at once, it assumes multiple roles or personas.
“Just a guy with a knife? Famous last words.”
In the self-referential style of the “Scream” series, Ghostface, the antagonist, exhibits a high degree of self-awareness within the game. His fatal blow even involves him smashing through several walls, to which Johnny Cage remarks, “He’s just ‘a guy with a knife.’
In terms of combat, Ghostface’s moveset appears quite similar to Noob Saibot’s, featuring a secondary form that enters the fray when needed. This substitute body often grabs opponents, functioning much like an additional Kombatant ally in battle.
In the Mortal Kombat series, Ghostface’s primary weapon is a knife, which he can either hurl or viciously attack his foe with. Similar to other guest characters in these games, many of Ghostface’s moves are inspired by the films – such as appearing from behind to repeatedly stab someone, or crawling on the ground to reach an opponent. And let’s not forget the signature Ghostface move: the knife-wipe.
It’s also shown that he has an animalistic side; Ghostface transforms into a vulture, tearing the other player to shreds.
Who is Ghostface from the Movies?
In the “Scream” series, we find a critique of the slasher genre, often personified by films such as “Friday the 13th” and “Halloween”. The antagonist in these movies is Ghostface, however, an intriguing aspect is that the killer’s identity changes from one film to another, continuing the cycle of brutal murders. Even when Ghostface seems to meet his end in a movie, viewers must brace themselves for a new character donning the mask in the next installment. The suspense lies in determining the true identity of Ghostface in each fresh chapter.
In simpler terms, Johnny Cage’s character is often described as just a man with a knife, but due to his significant role and impact as a horror icon within the Mortal Kombat series, it would be challenging for the franchise not to include him following the appearance of numerous guest characters in the game.
Besides Ghostface, the gathering also plans to feature additional special characters like the liquid metal T-1000 from Terminator 2: Judgment Day and yet another role played by Arnold Schwarzenegger, Conan the Barbarian.
Here’s the official description for the DLC:
