Movie director Karan Johar has created numerous successful films and introduced several star children into the industry, which has attracted criticism. Labeled as a ‘nepotism advocate,’ he’s faced harsh comments and was even referred to as ‘the standard-bearer of nepotism.’ Recently, he addressed these accusations and defended his student Alia Bhatt from being labeled a ‘nepo kid.’ He expressed that anyone who brands her with such labels is the most ‘unintelligent person on this planet.’ Additionally, Karan Johar discussed being the face of Bollywood disdain.
During an interview with Galatta Plus, Karan Johar addressed rumors of bias in Dharma Productions towards star children. He firmly stated these allegations are untrue and encouraged the public to review their talent roster for evidence to the contrary.
The filmmaker confessed that these accusations don’t faze him and he will carry on collaborating with actors if they display talent. He put it this way: “Does being labeled the face of Bollywood hate mean I have been elevated? If so, then I appreciate it. But do I deserve it? I sincerely doubt it.
Karan Johar responded to the label of Alia Bhatt as a ‘nepotism kid’ by asking, “Have you seen Highway, Udta Punjab, Raazi, or Gangubai? Just watch her movies.” He further stated, “If after watching her films, you still refer to her as a nepotism kid, then you must be incredibly uninformed. And unfortunately, there’s no remedy for that.
During the same interview, Karan Johar expressed that seeing Babil Khan’s emotional outburst video stirred feelings in him similar to those of a concerned parent, since he too is a father of two kids.
In the near future, Alia Bhatt will appear in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s grand production titled “Love & War.” She will share the screen with her husband, Ranbir Kapoor, and actor Vicky Kaushal. The film is currently scheduled for a theater release on March 20, 2026; however, there’s a possibility that the premiere could be postponed.
Apart from this, Alia is now all set to attend the Cannes Film Festival 2025.
