MSCHF Returns to Tokyo With ‘Material Values’ Exhibition

Following their recent re-release of their retrospective work, the creative duo MSCHF is now preparing for their upcoming exhibition, titled “Material Values, ” in Tokyo at NANZUKA UNDERGROUND. The exhibit is set to open on February 1st and continues where their 2024 show “No Shoes. No Phones. No Service” left off, focusing on the essence and worth of art through new creations. This thought-provoking display will offer a critique of capitalism using MSCHF’s signature blend of intelligence, humor, and, as always, a touch of mischief.

Temperature-Responsive Sculptures Depicting ‘Indium Figurines on Tech Devices,'” introduces a novel series of sculptures featuring miniature human figures embedded in electronic devices, which display the live market value of the scarce metal, indium. As the price of indium increases, so does the heat level in these sculptures; when the market value outpaces the artwork’s cost, the figures will melt and disintegrate due to reaching their melting point.

Additionally showcased are the “Animorph Paintings” series that reinterpret classic portraits by blending them with modern pop culture themes. Inspired by the covers from the popular children’s book series, Animorphs, these pieces change historical figures into contemporary icons, including Hajime Sorayama’s iconic “Sexy Robot”. This art reflects the ever-changing nature of beauty and artistic expression.

From February 1st to March 22nd, 2025, MSCHF’s “Material Values” will be on display at NANZUKA UNDERGROUND. For further information, visit their exhibition website.
