MTV VMAs Switch Dates to Avoid Debate Conflict

As a seasoned gamer and concert-goer who’s been through countless MTV VMAs over the years, I must admit that this news about shifting the 2024 VMAs to Wednesday, Sept. 11 has left me somewhat divided. On one hand, I’m excited about the fresh lineup of performers – Sabrina Carpenter, Camila Cabello, Chappell Roan, GloRilla and Rauw Alejandro – but on the other, it means I’ll have to adjust my schedule to watch the show.

Instead of happening on Tuesday, September 10th as initially planned, the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) in 2024 have been rescheduled for Wednesday, September 11th. This change aims to prevent the VMAs from conflicting with the presidential debate scheduled on the same day, featuring Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump.

The 2024 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) will once again take place at the UBS Arena, located in New York’s Long Island, and will be broadcast live on MTV at 8 p.m., Eastern Time (ET)/Pacific Time (PT).

On top of that, on Monday, the VMAs unveiled some of their initial lineup for performances featuring Sabrina Carpenter, Camila Cabello, Chappell Roan, GloRilla, and Rauw Alejandro.

Last week, the nominees for this year’s VMA Awards in 2024 were unveiled. Taylor Swift tops the list with a total of 10 nominations, followed closely by Post Malone with 9 and both Ariana Grande and Eminem with 6 each, also joined by Carpenter.

The venue ABC confirmed that both Harris and Trump have agreed to attend the debate scheduled for Tuesday, September 10th. Earlier, it was uncertain if Trump would participate, given his initial hesitation towards a debate previously arranged in May with President Joe Biden, who had been the Democratic presidential candidate at the time. Biden recently withdrew from the race and endorsed Harris as the Democratic nominee. Last week, she officially secured the required delegates to become the official Democratic nominee.

More to come.
