Mubi Takes Joachim Trier Cannes Film ‘Sentimental Value’ With Reinsve, Skarsgard, Fanning

Mubi, both an art-house movie distributor and streaming service, has secured distribution rights in major markets for the upcoming film “Sentimental Value” by Joachim Trier. This film will make its debut at the 78th Cannes Film Festival in competition category, as announced on Thursday.

Mubi now holds the distribution rights for the film across the U.K., Ireland, Latin America, Turkey, and India. They’ve hinted that details about its theatrical release will be disclosed in the upcoming months. Earlier, Neon secured the rights for the movie within North America. However, mk2 Films is managing sales for all regions outside of these areas.

Under the direction of Trier and in collaboration with him and Eskil Vogt (The Worst Person in the World, Oslo, August 31st), Sentimental Value boasts a star-studded cast including Renate Reinsve (The Worst Person in the World), Stellan Skarsgård (Dune), Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas (A Beautiful Life), and Elle Fanning (A Complete Unknown).

Or, more concisely:

Sentimental Value, directed by Trier along with Eskil Vogt (The Worst Person in the World, Oslo, August 31st), features Renate Reinsve (The Worst Person in the World), Stellan Skarsgård (Dune), Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas (A Beautiful Life), and Elle Fanning (A Complete Unknown) as its stars.

As a dedicated gamer diving into a cinematic adventure, I’d describe this flick as a heartfelt blend of laughter and tears set against the backdrop of a family residing in Oslo, a place where their ancestors have left footprints for generations. The plot takes an intriguing turn when the past subtly reemerges, surprising us in ways only life can.

I’m thrilled to be part of this exciting collaboration for a second time! Previously, I was fortunate enough to bring Kristoffer Trier’s last masterpiece, “The Worst Person in the World,” to audiences in the UK, Ireland, India, and Turkey. Now, I look forward to continuing our partnership on this new project.

Mubi described Joachim Trier’s latest movie as a personal and emotional journey delving into familial bonds, reminiscence, and the healing potential of artistic expression.

This Norwegian filmmaker has garnered acclaim for his movies, including “Reprise” (2006), “Oslo, August 31st” (2011) that debuted in the Un Certain Regard section of Cannes, “Louder Than Bombs” (2015) which was part of the Cannes competition, “Thelma” (2017), and most recently “The Worst Person in the World” (2021), that premiered in the 2021 Cannes Film Festival competition.
