Mukesh Bhatt 'didn’t believe audiences would like to see me as hero', RECALLS Deepak Tijori: 'It shook my belief'

As a dedicated follower of Deepak Tijori‘s career, I must say that his journey in Bollywood is nothing short of inspiring. Despite not getting the opportunity to play the lead role in many movies, he has consistently added depth and emotional resonance to some of our favorite heroes’ journeys.

Deepak Tijori is often recognized for his supportive roles alongside leading actors in films. For instance, he played Balu in “Aashiqui,” Bonny in “Khiladi,” and Gotya in “Sadak.” In these movies, he demonstrated his acting skills by infusing depth and emotional impact into the hero’s journey. Recently, Deepak discussed his career in an interview, revealing his disappointment at not having the chance to portray a hero on screen. He also mentioned that Mukesh Bhatt prevented Mahesh Bhatt from casting him as the lead actor in one of their films, as Mukesh was hesitant to take the risk of featuring Deepak as the main character.

In a recent conversation with Indian Express, actor Deepak Tijori disclosed that he was almost cast as the lead in a poignant film named Adhure Log. Initially planned by Mahesh Bhatt, the story revolves around an usher, a role Bhatt felt Deepak would embody perfectly due to his visualization of the character.

Deepak shared that he had long aspired to star in a movie helmed by Mahesh Bhatt, and now, after getting a taste of playing the leading role in such a film, he felt elated. After the photoshoot, Bhatt was even more certain that Deepak was perfect for the character. “I can confidently affirm this now,” Deepak said, “because he never recast me with someone else for that role; instead, he abandoned the entire project.” Additionally, Deepak lamented that his dream of portraying a hero in a Bhatt-directed film remained unrealized as it seemed implausible that producers would cast a loved one alongside him as the lead.

In my professional experience, there came a point where my brother, Mukesh Bhatt, declined offering me the main role in a project. He explained, “Many appreciate your work as a supporting character, so I’m hesitant to put you in the lead. If you want to move forward with this story, perhaps we should consider a new talent instead of you.” This is how I recall the conversation.

Growing up, I held firm beliefs about Amitabh Bachchan and Mithun Chakraborty, having read extensively about them and their rise from humble beginnings to stardom. However, a moment came that challenged this conviction when I pondered: perhaps they didn’t have someone like Mukesh Bhatt, who could potentially limit or shape their destinies negatively. This was the thought that resonated with me then.

Initially, Deepak launched his acting journey with movies like Aashiqui, Afsana Pyar Ka, Kaun Kare Kurbanie, and others. Later, he stepped into directing with the film Oops!.
