My Adventures With Superman's Jack Quaid Revealed He Auditioned For James Gunn's Superman, And Explained Why David Corenswet Was The Best Choice For The Role

As a long-time comic book fan and avid gamer, I can’t help but be excited about the latest developments in the world of Superman. Jack Quaid’s connection to the Man of Steel is something that truly resonates with me. His experience in voicing Kal-El for Adult Swim’s “My Adventures with Superman” and his past attempts at playing the character in live-action projects like James Gunn’s upcoming movie, make him a significant figure in the Superman universe.

Jack Quaid, recognized for his role as Hughie Campbell in “The Boys” on Amazon Prime Video, has made a significant impact in the superhero genre through voice acting as well. He lends his voice to Alberto Falcone in “Batman: The Long Halloween,” Earth-65’s Peter Parker in “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” and currently portrays Kal-El/Clark Kent in Adult Swim’s “My Adventures with Superman.” Interestingly, Quaid attempted to secure the role of Superman in James Gunn’s production but ultimately acknowledged that David Corenswet was the ideal choice for the part.

During an interview with journalist Josh Horowitz, Quaid shared his brief experience of being considered for the upcoming DC film’s lead role. He expressed his thoughts on why O’Connell was perfect for portraying the new Superman and also acknowledged why he didn’t get the part.

I didn’t progress much in my recent attempts. I put in an effort and gave it my best shot, but unfortunately, things didn’t work out. Yet, I’m not disappointed because I have a connection with David Corenswet. We worked together on a project long ago that didn’t make it past the pilot stage. He’s one of those individuals you meet and think, “Wow, whenever they need someone for a role, he’s likely to be the top pick.” He’s a real-life Superman.

An actor may not get selected for a role due to physical unsuitability rather than a subpar audition. Jack Quaid acknowledges this reason for not being cast as Superman. However, he’s content with the outcome since he had previously worked with David Corenswet and knew that the latter was an excellent fit for the part. Intriguingly enough, in 2019, Corenswet expressed his dream of portraying Superman.

As a long-time fan of Superman and a devoted follower of the DC Universe, I’m thrilled to share my perspective on the latest developments in the world of our beloved Man of Steel. It’s been an agonizing wait for over a year now since we learned that James Gunn would be taking the reins from Henry Cavill as the next live-action Superman. The anticipation is palpable, and I can hardly contain my excitement as filming on the first DC movie under his direction nears completion.

The movie adaptation of “Superman” is scheduled to premiere in theaters on July 11, 2025. This will mark the second DC Universe production to be made available, as the animated “Creature Commandos” series is set to debut on Max streaming service in December.
