As a dedicated fan of historical dramas with a twist of fantasy, I must admit that the sudden departure of “My Lady Jane” from our screens has left me feeling like I’ve been unceremoniously dethroned. Just when I was getting acquainted with this intriguing alternate 16th-century England populated by humans and shape-shifters, the series comes to an abrupt end.
Like the real Jane Grey, the reign of My Lady Jane turned out to be a short one.
Amazon‘s Prime Video has ended the run of their romantic-fantasy series set in an alternative world. This decision was made approximately seven weeks following the release of the entire first and last season, which consisted of eight episodes on Prime Video.
In the 16th century England depicted in the book “My Lady Jane,” written by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton and Jodi Meadows, humans live alongside shape-shifters who can transform into either people or animals. The protagonist, Jane (played by Emily Bader), is a typical human, or Verity, but she develops empathy for the marginalized shape-shifters, known as Ethians. This compassion may cause trouble when Jane ascends to power, challenging the ruling class.
More to come.
