Mystery of Mrs. Flood in Doctor Who to be Revealed Soon!

In the 2023 Christmas special titled “The Church on Ruby Road,” Ncuti Gatwa’s Fifteenth Doctor took center stage. After making an appearance in the series “The Giggle” as a doctor born across two generations, an intriguing mystery was introduced in the form of Mrs. Flood, portrayed by Anita Dobson. This character is familiar to Ruby Sunday’s neighbor and knows about TARDISes, even breaking the fourth wall. She reappeared at the end of Doctor Who’s first season on Disney+, but she remains a largely enigmatic figure. Fans can look forward to learning more about Mrs. Flood, as answers are confirmed in Doctor Who Season 15, also known as Season 2 for those with a Disney+ subscription, which is scheduled to premiere in the 2025 TV lineup. This revelation has generated excitement among viewers.

Dobson conveyed to Radio Times that by the conclusion of the upcoming season (often referred to as a “series” in the UK), we will have a clear understanding of the full backstory for his character in ‘Doctor Who’. To quote him directly:

By the end of this series that’s coming up now, you will find out who she is and what she’s about.

In simpler terms, the Showrunner for Doctor Who clarified to us how the Christmas special, including the intriguing scene featuring Ruby Sunday, lays the groundwork for the upcoming season.

As a dedicated fan, I once had the privilege to inquire from Steven Moffat, the brilliant mind behind Doctor Who, about his penchant for parting with companions in heartrending and sorrowful manners. To my delight, he eloquently explained his reasoning using the infectious enthusiasm of actress Nicola Coughlan as an analogy.

I’ve been eagerly anticipating some of these responses to surface during Doctor Who Season 14, but better late than never! I’m thrilled to learn that the mystery surrounding Mrs. Flood will be unraveled earlier on instead of being saved for near the end of Ncuti Gatwa’s term as The Doctor. Given how ominously we were left with her at the end of “Empire of Death,” this is particularly exciting news. In that episode, it was revealed that Mrs. Flood, who had previously understood the danger Sutekh posed in “The Legend of Ruby Sunday,” was seen atop Ruby’s house dressed like Mary Poppins, hinting ominously to the audience that although Millie Gibson’s character had a “very happy ending,” The Doctor’s story is set to end in utter terror.

In that instance, neither Mrs. Flood nor Anita Dobson revealed specific details, but Anita did hint at some exciting wardrobe choices for her role in Doctor Who Season 2. Furthermore, she suggested that certain fan theories about Mrs. Flood aren’t too far from what showrunner Russell T. Davies has planned.

I find some of the theories quite impressive, as I’ve had interactions with fans at Comic Cons, and they often share insights that are remarkably accurate. Sometimes, their ideas leave me in awe, thinking “that’s really impressive.” I look forward to continuing this journey, as it has been an amazing experience so far. I have a soft spot for Mrs. Flood.

Besides providing more insight about Mrs. Flood, the upcoming Season 2 of Doctor Who will also introduce a new character named Belinda Chandra, portrayed by Varada Sethu. You may remember her from Season 1’s episode “Boom” as Mundy Flynn. Millie Gibson will continue her role as Ruby Sunday, although the extent of her appearances remains undisclosed. Unfortunately, no specific date for Doctor Who’s return has been announced yet.
