This past Friday, Netflix debuted the enchanting blend of romance and humor in Nadaaniyan. As a fortunate cast member, I, Aaliyah Qureishi, had the privilege to share my on-set journey. Reflecting on our dynamic duo, Ibrahim Ali Khan was the soul of the gathering, while Khushi Kapoor exhibited an admirable discipline. To my delight, there was never a sense of discomfort or awkwardness among us, making it feel more like a lively group of friends rather than co-stars.
During a chat with Mint, Aaliyah Qureishi discussed Ibrahim Ali Khan’s on-set demeanor, characterizing him as friendly, lively, and outgoing. She shared that he was particularly hospitable to everyone, often spending leisurely moments with her in the van during breaks or after shoots.
She referred to him as the “spirited soul of gatherings,” and further disclosed that Nadaaniyan wasn’t his debut production; instead, it marked the first release among his films. She added that working with him was an enriching journey for her.
In the movie, Aaliyah is cast as the close friend of the main character, who is played by Khushi Kapoor. Consequently, numerous scenes called for a convincing and engaging dynamic between them on screen.
Qureishi portrayed Kapoor as a genuinely kind and softly-voiced individual, reminiscing about her commitment during the movie’s filming. He mentioned that Khushi was exceptionally disciplined, usually choosing to retire by 10 or 11 pm instead of socializing following lengthy shooting days, in order to be well-prepared for the next day.
Aaliyah noted that Khushi consistently showed up early at the film set and maintained a strong work ethic, approaching every project with the same fervor as if it were her first. Moreover, she applauded Khushi’s punctuality and her consistent commitment to fitness.
Aaliyah, who’s been around in the entertainment world for some time and has collaborated with numerous prominent figures, openly discussed her views about working alongside celebrities’ children such as Ibrahim and Khushi. When inquired if she felt the star quality surrounding them, she clarified that she treats every cast member equally on set, as their background might impact her performance.
In other words, she highlighted that when performing scenes demanding anger or rudeness towards Khushi, considering his ancestry might have hindered her from acting genuinely and spontaneously.
In my commitment to my craft, I ensure that I approach each project with a refreshed perspective, just as Aaliyah, Ibrahim, and the cast of The Archies do. This mindset allows me to enter the set without any sense of hierarchy or intimidation, making our collaborative efforts seamless and enjoyable.
