Naomi Watts Reveals Heartfelt Last Lunch with David Lynch and Laura Dern

David Lynch played a pivotal role in establishing Naomi Watts‘ acting career in the U.S., as they worked together on the groundbreaking film “Mulholland Drive.” Even in the weeks before his passing on January 17, 2025, it appeared that Lynch was brainstorming ways to further their collaborative relationship. This glimpse into Lynch’s working style with his favorite creative partners underscores both his genius and the poignant sense of what might have been when he passed away.

In a recent conversation with the Los Angeles Times, the actress shared some intriguing tidbits about her latest meeting with the director and frequent collaborator Laura Dern. This get-together wasn’t just a friendly catch-up, but also served as a discussion about a potential new project where the three of them would work together on screen once more. As Watts put it:

At his place, we enjoyed a lovely meal together. Despite being under the weather, he was full of energy. Surprisingly, he expressed a desire to return to work. Laura and I encouraged him, suggesting that he might as well work from his trailer if he insists. But he wasn’t done yet; his creative spirit was vibrant and evident in him.

Expressing her profound sadness, she remarked that the loss was “incredibly heart-wrenching.” After experiencing a fortunate and robust beginning following David Lynch’s debut, she considered him not only as a creative collaborator but also a cherished friend. She expressed her hope to reunite with him soon, as they had arranged to meet in just a couple of weeks, given that she was residing in L.A at the time. There is much more to share about their relationship, but she wishes to maintain privacy out of respect for his family. Their last meeting, however, left her overflowing with love and optimism.
