As an ardent admirer of Nawazuddin Siddiqui, I find his recent candid interview truly enlightening. His unique perspective on the conventional hero image in commercial films resonates deeply with me, having grown accustomed to the intricacies and nuances that Nawazuddin brings to every role he undertakes.
Initially, Nawazuddin Siddiqui made a brief debut in Aamir Khan’s 1999 film Sarfarosh. Later, he appeared in minor roles in movies like Munna Bhai MBBS, Black Friday, Shool, Jungle, and others. After his breakthrough performance in Gangs of Wasseypur, Nawazuddin gained widespread recognition in Hindi cinema. Lately, Nawazuddin expressed that the conventional portrayal of a ‘typical hero’ in films seems monotonous to him. He emphasized that his career lacks a backstory.
In a recent conversation on The Majlis Show YouTube podcast, Nawazuddin Siddiqui openly discussed his views on the portrayal of a heroic character in popular movies.
When prompted to share his thoughts on a hero’s arrival, Nawaz stated, “If I were to be honest, it all seems quite dull to me. Regardless of any qualities he may possess, this hero will save the entire world and win the love of the girl as well.
I’ve got no clue what he earns or what his profession even is… It’s all a mystery to me! (As an obsessed fan)
Nawazuddin went on to explain that the female lead becomes deeply smitten with him in the story, due to his handsome appearance as the male protagonist. He also revealed that she realizes he is capable of protecting her from thugs and standing up against groups of 15-20 individuals.
In the same interview, Nawazuddin Siddiqui expressed his preference for portraying complex characters in movies. He elaborated that these roles aren’t self-aggrandizing but instead display an uncompromising truthfulness, with many flaws and errors.
The 50-year-old actor expressed his disdain for roles that lack depth and complexity. He stated that compelling characters possess both faults and admirable qualities. In reference to well-rounded characters, the star of Bajrangi Bhaijaan added that such characters are not found in real life but rather on the silver screen.
Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui has been featured in various films such as Gangs of Wasseypur, Badlapur, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Raees, Thackeray, Photograph, Mom, Raman Raghav 2.0, Serious Men, among others.
