Nawazuddin Siddiqui faces backlash as Hindu organization calls for legal action over 'tarnishing Maharashtra police' image

As a devoted admirer of Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s exceptional acting prowess, I find myself deeply troubled by the recent controversy surrounding his latest venture. It’s hard to believe that an artist as talented as him could be entangled in such a predicament.

Acting sensation Nawazuddin Siddiqui faces backlash following an advertisement that stirred up controversy, with a religious group claiming he has damaged the reputation of the Maharashtra police. The organization insists on taking legal steps against the star.

According to a report in Free Press Journal, the Hindu Janjagruti Samiti has urged the Mumbai Police commissioner and the chief of Maharashtra’s police force to take legal steps against actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui. The group claims that his characterization of a police officer in an online game advertisement harms the image of the Maharashtra Police.

The Surajya Abhiyan campaign urgently requests that action be taken against Siddiqui, alleging that he tarnishes the reputation of the police by advertising poker while wearing a Maharashtra police uniform. The organization argues that this advertisement is harmful and disrespectful to law enforcement officials.

Abhishek Murukate, the state coordinator of Surajya Abhiyan in Maharashtra, wrote a letter to the state’s DGP and Mumbai Police commissioner, asking them to take firm action against Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Ankur Singh, the proprietor of an online gaming app. The letter requests strong legal steps according to the Maharashtra Civil Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1979, and the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951, as these individuals are accused of tarnishing the police reputation through a controversial advertisement.

The letter expressed significant worries about the circumstances at hand, emphasizing the unexpected twist that the very police department which apprehends gamblers is now entangled in this predicament. The Hindu Janjagruti Samiti’s Surajya Abhiyan criticized the advertisement for damaging the Maharashtra Police’s credibility, cautioning that disregarding this matter might result in a surge of illicit and unscrupulous ads exploiting police uniforms.

The letter stated, “This situation damages the reputation of the Maharashtra Police. Failure to address it might result in further instances of illegal and unscrupulous advertisements featuring police uniforms.” Additionally, it appealed to Maharashtra’s home minister, Devendra Fadnavis, to pay attention to this issue.

Murukate underscored the rigorous efforts and training of the Maharashtra police, pointing out a flaw in the advertisement suggesting that online gambling boosts their abilities. He was disheartened that no police officer had taken action against the gaming app on their own initiative, finding it unfortunate that external parties needed to voice the complaints. Additionally, he expressed optimism that the Home Minister of Maharashtra would acknowledge this issue.

Simultaneously, on his acting career, Nawazuddin Siddiqui started his journey in Bollywood with the film Sarfarosh in 1999 alongside Aamir Khan. They worked together again in Talaash: The Answer Lies Within and later collaborated on Aamir’s co-production, Peepli Live in 2010.

Later on, he collaborated with Shah Rukh Khan in the 2017 crime drama “Raees” and acted alongside Salman Khan in hit movies like “Kick” and “Bajrangi Bhaijaan”. Siddiqui’s extensive film career boasts of critically praised titles such as “Gangs of Wasseypur”, “Badlapur”, “Thackeray”, “Photograph”, “Mom”, “Raman Raghav 2.0”, and “Serious Men”, demonstrating his adaptability and skill within the film industry.
