Nawazuddin Siddiqui had a hilarious reaction after watching the first cut of Gangs Of Waseeypur: 'ye kya bana dia yar...'

As an ardent admirer of the raw, gritty, and mesmerizing world of Indian cinema, I find myself constantly in awe of the genius that is Anurag Kashyap and his unparalleled masterpiece, Gangs of Wasseypur. The way Nawazuddin Siddiqui effortlessly slipped into the skin of his character, transforming into the complex, enigmatic figure of the coal mafia, left me speechless.

Anurag Kashyap’s groundbreaking film Gangs of Wasseypur continues to be one of his most impressive creations. Nawazuddin Siddiqui garnered immense praise from movie enthusiasts for his exceptional acting, and it’s evident that each scene of the movie held viewers spellbound. Interestingly, when Nawaz initially watched a rough version of the film, he reacted by saying, “What on earth have you made?”. However, after watching the entire movie at the Cannes Film Festival, he later acknowledged, “It was then I realized that Anurag is indeed a unique Anurag.”

In an ANI podcast, when asked if he knew they were making something extraordinary while working on Gangs of Wasseypur, Siddiqui admitted that he didn’t. He explained that it’s difficult to predict the outcome during film production and even after finishing it, he was uncertain about its impact. Upon viewing the rough cut, he thought, “What on earth have we made?” However, it wasn’t until he saw the final version at Cannes, following the polishing process, that he realized Anurag Kashyap had done something remarkable and said, “It was only then that I understood, Anurag has indeed done something special, a bit of Anurag, there is Anurag.”

Siddiqui highly commended Kashyap, describing him as a genius who revolutionized Indian cinema and earned international acclaim, yet remains under-appreciated within his home nation. The film Gangs of Wasseypur premiered in the Directors’ Fortnight section at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival.

Additionally starring in this movie are Nawazuddin’s fellow talented actors, Manoj Bajpayee, Pankaj Tripathi, Richa Chadda, Huma Qureshi, and Tigmanshu Dhulia.

The two-part Gangs of Wasseypur series tells the story of a coal mafia family in Wasseypur, a town in Jharkhand’s Dhanbad district. Both films were highly appreciated by audiences for their intense drama and gritty storytelling, while critics praised the cinematic artistry.

In terms of his professional endeavors, Irrfan Khan, known for his role in The Lunchbox, will soon be seen in the movie Adbhut. This film also stars Diana Penty, Shreya Dhanwanthary, and Rohan Mehra. Produced by Sony Pictures International Productions and Sabbir Khan Films, it offers an intriguing exploration of a realm where the supernatural intertwines with everyday life.

After Adbhut, Nawazuddin has numerous upcoming roles. He will be featured in Oil Kumar, a film that takes inspiration from the life of ganglord Benakanahalli Alappa Shivakumar. Furthermore, his upcoming films include Noorani Chehra and Sangeen.
