NBA 2K All Star to launch at the end of next month, bringing the top-flight basketball sim to mobile

  • NBA 2K All Star, a mobile adaptation of the hit sports sim, is coming to mobile
  • Courtesy of Tencent and NBA teaming up, it looks to bring a live-service version of the series to fans
  • It’s only set to release in the east, however, on March 25th

It’s no wonder, given the advancements in mobile technology, that games from the AAA genre like sports simulators are becoming more common on smartphones. However, what is quite unexpected is the collaboration between Tencent and the NBA (National Basketball Association) to introduce the NBA 2K series onto mobile devices in China. The game is rumored to be launched on March 25th.

It’s not unexpected that Tencent and the NBA are joining forces given their significant roles in the world of gaming, albeit from different angles. Yet, it might come as a surprise to know that basketball is a major commercial venture in Tencent’s native China, attracting millions of viewers and fans annually.

Given that we already have a 2K All Stars version for consoles, it’s not so surprising that they’re bringing it to mobile devices. However, what makes this interesting is the unknown features of the mobile version, since it doesn’t follow the usual year-based naming convention (like 2K24 or 2K25). Whether it will be a long-term live service remains to be seen when it launches in China on March 25th. We’ll have to wait and find out then!

Shoot for the hoop

Until we have concrete information about 2K All Stars, most conversations revolve around speculation. However, it’s worth noting that the NBA is strengthening its mobile presence with the launch of Dunk City Dynasty, a game developed in partnership with the organization, which adds to the overall discussion.

As an avid sports enthusiast, I must admit that the rollout of NBA All World didn’t quite live up to the hype. However, it appears that the league is making a strategic shift towards mobile platforms, which could potentially be the key to captivating even more fans.
