NBC News Developing Subscription Video Service

NBC News is working on launching a fresh video-streaming subscription service designed specifically for users who primarily watch videos on their mobile devices.

At a summit held by Semafor in Washington on Thursday, Cesar Condé, chairman of NBCUniversal News Group, unveiled the new service.

Information is limited, but Conde mentioned that the company aims for a fourth-quarter debut. He also hinted that this new service will enhance their existing streaming services, such as NBC News Now and Today All Day.

NBC News follows suit with CNN by creating a video subscription service aimed at a younger audience. In January, CNN’s CEO Mark Thompson disclosed intentions to launch a fresh streaming service, stating in a memo that it would provide an innovative method for digital subscribers worldwide to stream news content from us on any device they prefer.

Conde positioned NBC News as a significant provider of “high-end” video content, hinting that the upcoming service will emphasize this premium content, but provided no further details on specifics.

More to come.
