As a long-time gamer and avid follower of television news, I’m thrilled to see NBC expanding its drama lineup with not one but two new series: Suits L.A. and Grosse Pointe Garden Society. These shows promise to bring intriguing and fresh stories to our screens.

NBC is expanding its drama offerings with two new shows: “Suits L.A.” – a spin-off of the revived legal drama “Suits” – and “Grosse Pointe Garden Society,” where suburban gardening conceals a dark side. Last autumn, news about “Suits L.A.” emerged when Beatrice Springborn, President of Universal International Studios, mentioned it during Content London. In February, NBC officially announced they had commissioned a pilot episode for the spinoff. In February 2023, NBC established a writers’ room for “Grosse Pointe Garden Society.”

In the series “Suits: L.A.“, actor Stephen Amell from the “Arrowverse” will portray the character of Ted Black. Previously a federal prosecutor in New York, Ted has transformed into a lawyer in Los Angeles, representing high-powered clients. However, his law firm is facing tough times, forcing him to take on a role he had despised until now. With a talented team by his side, Ted’s loyalties will be put to the test as they navigate both their professional and personal lives.

As a huge fan of “Suits: LA,” I’m thrilled to share that some talented actors join the cast, including Josh McDermitt, Lex Scott Davis, and Bryan Greenberg. Greenberg, who plays Rick Dodsen, my favorite new character, shared with MovieWeb his excitement about working on the pilot was simply incredible. Aaron Korsh, our beloved series creator, is back as a writer and executive producer. Moreover, David Bartis, Doug Liman, Gene Klein, and Victoria Mahoney serve as executive producers, with Mahoney also directing the pilot episode. UCP and Hypnotic produce this amazing production.

I. The revival of “Suits” was inevitable: Having aired on the network from 2011 to 2019, the original USA series experienced a renaissance on Netflix. Be it referred to as the “Netflix effect” or the “Meghan Markle effect,” this legal drama unexpectedly flourished on the streaming platform. In 2023, “Suits” reigned supreme as the most-watched show with an astounding 57.7 billion minutes viewed on Netflix and Peacock; Disney+’s “Bluey” came in second place with 43.9 billion minutes.

Murder Blooms in Grosse Pointe Garden Society

The news about the “Grosse Pointe Garden Society” has largely gone unnoticed (despite being commissioned early in 2023), but lovers of suburban dramas have much to look forward to. This upcoming series boasts an intriguing plotline: four apparently ordinary garden club members get entangled in a murder investigation. With a strong cast on board, “Grosse Pointe Garden Society” is shaping up to be an entertaining watch.

The cast of “Grosse Pointe Garden Society” includes Melissa Fumero as Birdie, a successful author with a penchant for design; AnnaSophia Robb as Alice, a long-standing English teacher and society member; Ben Rappaport as Brett, the local garden store manager; Aja Naomi King in an undisclosed role; Nancy Travis in an unspecified part; Matthew Davis as yet to be announced character; Alexander Hodge; and Felix Avitia. The specific roles of these actors have not been made public at this time.

I’m really looking forward to following Fumero’s career evolution, as she’s won my heart over with her hilarious performances on “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.” It’s intriguing that she’s taking a more dramatic turn now, but it seems she’s actually returning to her acting beginnings, having made her debut on the soap opera “One Life to Live.” Watching her transform from a driven detective to a video store clerk (in “Blockbuster”) and eventually into an entitled ex-wife is sure to be a captivating journey.

The official logline for Grosse Pointe Garden Society reads:

Four women from various backgrounds, who are part of a suburban gardening association, find themselves entangled in murder and chaos while trying to nurture and flourish their ordinary lives.

Jenna Bans and Bill Krebs are in charge of creating and overseeing the production of the series, with assistance from Casey Kyber and Maggie Kiley. The trio shares the role of executive producers, and Maggie Kiley additionally helms the director’s chair for the pilot episode.

Initially, Variety announced the news about NBC commissioning the shows “Suits L.A.” and “Grosse Pointe Garden Society.” As of now, there’s no information available regarding their premiere dates.
