As a long-time fan of the NCIS franchise, I can’t help but feel like Christmas came early this year! With the full season orders for NCIS: Origins and Poppa’s House, it seems CBS is truly giving us more of what we love – and that’s a good thing!
For NCIS fans, the upcoming Season 2 of NCIS: Sydney and the streaming-exclusive spinoff NCIS: Tony & Ziva, slated for release in 2025, offer two primary ways to stay connected with the NCIS universe: by tuning into the original series and its prequel, NCIS: Origins, on CBS. The latter, which debuted on the 2024 TV schedule in recent weeks, has just secured a full season order. Cast members such as Austin Stowell, portraying the younger Leroy Jethro Gibbs, and others have expressed their excitement about this development.
Today, CBS revealed that both “NCIS: Origins” and the comedy series “Poppa’s House,” led by Damon Wayans Sr. and Jr., will broadcast 18 episodes during their initial seasons. This makes them the third and fourth shows from this network to secure a full season order, with “Young Sheldon” spinoff “Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage” being the first to receive this honor, followed by Kathy Bates’ revival of “Matlock.” In response to the announcement of extra episodes for “Origins,” Austin Stowell expressed his thoughts as follows:
Thank you to our amazing fans!! We’ve got so much more for you!
Stowell shared this sentiment on an Instagram post from co-star Tyla Abercrumbie, who plays Mary Jo Hayes, NIS’ Field Operation Support Officer, a.k.a. the “Head Secretary in Charge.” Sharing a photo of herself with Stowell and fellow main cast members Kyle Schmid and Diany Rodriguez, Abercrumbie shared her excitement for NCIS: Origins sticking around for even longer by writing this caption:
We’re absolutely thrilled! You folks have just presented us with a wonderful gift. Many thanks for tuning in. Keep an eye out, as there’s even more excitement coming your way💥💥💥💥🙏🏼
But they weren’t the only NCIS: Origins cast members chimed in. In the comments section of Abercurmbie’s post and the one put out by the NCISverse account, there were also brief thoughts of excitement from Molino, who plays Special Agent Lala Dominguez (someone who will end up being important to Gibbs); Rodriguez, who plays Special Agent Vera Strickland; Caleb Martin Foote, who plays Special Agent Bernard “Randy” Randolf; and Bobby Moynihan, who plays forensic analyst Woody Browne. Take a look:

1991 marks the backdrop for NCIS: Origins, a series that follows Leroy Jethro Gibbs, who is still reeling from the murder of his wife and daughter, as he begins his career as an NIS agent at Camp Pendleton. He’s recruited by Mike Franks, and this prequel traces Gibbs’ early days in the agency. Mark Harmon, not only executive produces alongside his son Sean, but also lends his voice as the older Gibbs in narration. The series is helmed by showrunners Gina Lucita Monreal and David J. North, with Harmon making a brief appearance in the pilot episode.
