Contains spoilers for “NCIS” Season 22, Episode 17 — “Killer Instinct”
In the current Season 22, Special Agent Timothy McGee (played by Sean Murray), a regular character in “NCIS”, appears to be going through a particularly tough time. He dislikes Deputy Director Gabriel LaRoche (performed by Seamus Dever) due to his disdain for the close-knit camaraderie and familial bond within the NCIS team, as well as his belief that LaRoche was responsible for compromising Nick Torres’s (Wilmer Valderrama) backstory during the Nexus cartel operation. Additionally, McGee is wary of LaRoche’s intentions towards his family and fears that he may be trying to force him out of NCIS.
Currently, Tim and his spouse Delilah (Margo Harshman) are compelled to dine with LaRoche due to a situation. The reason being, the infamous assassin known as The Poet has been revealed to be Paul Morton (Morgan Peter Brown). He refused to disclose crucial information regarding who hired him before taking his life dramatically in an interrogation room. As the team searches for The Poet’s contact in hopes of identifying who initially hired him, Tim surreptitiously investigates LaRoche’s residence, seeking evidence linking him to the assassins’ misdeeds. However, it transpires that The Poet’s employer wants to clean up the mess he created — a task that includes both Tim and LaRoche.
Although Seamus Dever has portrayed a villain during Season 22 of “NCIS”, he is most recognized for his role as the charmingly acerbic yet kind-hearted Kevin Ryan in the ABC series “Castle”. Here’s another reason why you might recognize him.
Seamus Dever is musical — and has a history in voiceovers
Seamus Dever began his acting career, like many others, on daytime dramas. He made appearances in various roles on TV shows such as “Undressed” on MTV, “Without a Trace,” “Cold Case,” and “JAG.” His breakthrough role was Dr. Ian Devlin on the long-running soap opera “General Hospital.” However, it was revealed that his character had a dark side, working for mobster Claudia Zacchara (Sarah Brown) by dealing drugs and carrying out tasks for her criminal organization. This included attempts to assassinate fellow gangster Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and kidnapping Maxie Jones (Kirsten Storms). Eventually, Dr. Devlin was killed by Jason Morgan (Steve Burton), a close associate of Sonny.
In his progression, Dever found himself featured in the movies “Hollywoodland” as Phillip and “Mad Men” as Chuck. On “Army Wives,” he portrayed Dr. Chris Ferlinghetti, embarking on a passionate seven-episode romance with Denise Sherwood (Catherine Bell). Additionally, he took on the role of the interdimensional demon Trigon in the popular series “Titans.
Beyond all else, Dever possesses a voice reminiscent of gold; he has a rich background in giving life to video game characters’ dialogues. Listen for him in several minor roles across “Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix,” as Felix Neuman in “Call of Duty: Black Ops 6,” and as John Seed in “Far Cry.” He’s even showcased his singing talents at conventions and charity cabaret performances. It’s possible that “NCIS” may allow him to serenade the audience before his character’s storyline concludes.
