As a longtime NCIS enthusiast who has seen the team grow and evolve over the years, I must say that Season 22 promises to bring about some exciting changes! The time jump and the scattering of the team across different areas sound like a fresh take on the series we’ve grown to love.
Over time, the team on NCIS has gone through numerous changes, and Season 22 is no exception to this trend. Firstly, there will be a substantial leap forward in time, advancing the story six months into the future. Historically, the NCIS team has functioned as a closely bonded unit, but in Season 22, their attention will be dispersed among various aspects.
As reported by Entertainment Weekly, the series is set to advance six months, and three main characters – Timothy McGee (Sean Murray), Nick Torres (Wilmer Valderrama), and Parker (Gary Cole) – find themselves in significantly distinct situations. McGee seeks a deputy director promotion, Torres resumes his role as an undercover agent, while Parker’s attention turns towards the west, working alongside Jessica Knight (Katrina Law) on a crucial case. Knight is also grappling with some major life choices, contemplating her decision to leave Jimmy Palmer (Brian Dietzen) behind. Showrunner Steve Binder discussed the team changes, commenting on the upcoming shakeup.
In the most challenging situations imaginable, these two characters will have a significant conversation. In essence, prepare for intense episodes brimming with romance, unconventional partnerships, and intrigue. For instance, who on earth is Lily (Sunnie Pelant)? It’s questionable whether Parker knows her either, as we don’t always recall the wounds of our past.
More Changes Are Coming to the NCIS Universe
The main cast and show of NCIS undergo significant transformations. This season isn’t the only fresh start within the NCIS Franchise. The NCIS universe is also preparing for a trip down memory lane with the premiere of NCIS: Origins, an eagerly awaited prequel series that delves into the past of a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs. Austin Stowell will portray the younger Gibbs, but fans of the original series can relax as Mark Harmon will return to voice the older Gibbs in a narrative role.
In addition to the prequel series, the NCIS universe is set to debut the eagerly anticipated spin-off, NCIS: Tony and Ziva. This upcoming series will focus on Tony and Ziva reuniting as they juggle their roles as parents and ex-NCIS agents while exploring Europe’s stunning landscapes.
As a die-hard NCIS fan, I can’t help but wonder what lies ahead for my favorite characters as they navigate through uncharted waters. But fear not, fellow enthusiasts! The long-awaited NCIS Season 22 is set to premiere on Monday, October 14, at 8 p.m. ET. With plenty of unanswered questions still lingering, I’m confident that we’ll finally get some closure soon.
