Through the Naughty Dog Instagram account, the co-creator shared the update. In a detailed post, he expressed that he was stepping back from his creative role in “The Last of Us” on HBO. His statement read, “After completing work for season 2 and before significant work begins on season 3, it’s the ideal moment for me to shift my attention entirely to Naughty Dog and its upcoming endeavors, such as writing, directing our upcoming game ‘Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet,’ in addition to my duties as Studio Head and Head of Creative.

Druckmann went on to say that co-creating the show has been a significant milestone in his career. He expressed gratitude for collaborating with Craig Mazin, sharing executive producer, director, and writing responsibilities during the last two seasons. He is deeply appreciative of the careful approach and commitment shown by the talented cast and crew as they brought ‘The Last of Us Part I’ to life and continue adapting ‘The Last of Us Part II’.

In simpler terms, co-writer Halley Gross has chosen to step away from her daily duties on HBO’s “The Last of Us.” She expressed her decision with thoughtfulness, stating that she wants to create room for future opportunities. Halley is thankful for the unique experience she had while working on this series alongside Neil, Craig, HBO, and a fantastic cast and crew. The stories they told about love, loss, and humanity in a harsh world are why she loves this franchise. She has exciting projects coming up that she can’t wait to reveal, but for now, she wants to express her appreciation to everyone who brought Ellie and Joel’s world to life so beautifully.

In a statement, Craig Mazin, another creator of the series, expressed his joy about collaborating with Neil and adapting his remarkable work for HBO. He further mentioned that he couldn’t have hoped for a more collaborative creative partner. As an ardent admirer of Naughty Dog and Neil’s game creations, Craig is thrilled to see Neil’s upcoming project. While Neil concentrates on the new game, Craig will continue working with our talented cast and crew to ensure the quality of the show viewers have come to anticipate. The team is deeply appreciative to Neil and Halley Gross for entrusting us with the extraordinary tale from The Last of Us Part II, and we’re equally thankful to the global audience who tune in.
