Neil Gaiman, known as the author of Sandman, has addressed the accusations of abuse made by a former babysitter, Scarlett Pavlovich, through a recent court statement. This comes after he and his estranged wife, Amanda Palmer, faced allegations of sexual assault and trafficking which they have consistently denied since the lawsuit was filed.
According to Variety, Gaiman stated in his declaration, “None of Pavlovich’s allegations are valid. She is a storyteller of falsehoods who has concocted a narrative of abuse against me and Ms. Palmer.
To bolster his argument, Gaiman presented numerous messages exchanged between him and Pavlovich, which portray a different narrative than what’s depicted in court records. While Gaiman hasn’t disputed the occurrence of intimate interactions with the plaintiff, he argues that these messages demonstrate they were mutually agreed upon. A message from Pavlovich dated February 2022 reads:
“Thank you for a lovely lovely night – wow x.”
A subsequent message sent a couple of days after reads, “Feel free to let me know if you’d like me to draw a bath… My mind has been preoccupied with thoughts of you and what we might do together. I can hardly wait.
Additionally, Gaiman states that upon learning of the sexual assault accusations leveled against him, he directly addressed Pavlovich, to which he received a reply stating:
Good heavens, Neil! It seems there’s been some misunderstanding here – I didn’t express those words, but your message has left me utterly astonished. The suggestion you made is unacceptable and inappropriate, to put it mildly. I’m completely taken aback by this, and I’m finding it hard to respond. I assure you, I have never used the word ‘rape’, and I’m struggling to find the right words in light of your message.
