Neil Gaiman asserts that the rape accusations made against him by a previous nanny are baseless, suggesting that evidence from WhatsApp conversations supports his innocence.
Last February, a lawsuit was brought forward against Neil Gaiman, well-known author of ‘Good Omens’ and ‘The Sandman’, along with his former spouse Amanda Palmer. The lawsuit accused Gaiman of repeatedly raping and assaulting Scarlett Pavlovich, an individual who had previously worked for his family in New Zealand during the year 2022.
Moreover, Pavlovich asserts that she informed Palmer about the assault, mentioning furthermore that Palmer showed no surprise and apparently had prior knowledge of instances of sexual misconduct by Gaiman in the past.
Pavlovich’s initial suit includes claims of sexual assault, battery and human trafficking.
Currently, Gaiman has asked to drop the lawsuit, arguing that none of Pavlovich’s allegations are accurate. He believes she is inventing a story, concocting false claims of abuse against him and Ms. Palmer.
Gaiman highlights text conversations with Pavlovich, which he asserts demonstrate their relationship was consensual, with Pavlovich being an active and eager instigator of numerous sexual interactions.
The screenshots show a message supposedly sent to Gaiman, which reads: “My mind is filled with images of you and actions you might take on me. I’m starving. You’ve transformed me into such a monstrous being.
Additionally, his legal team clarifies that the New Zealand authorities thoroughly examined Ms Pavlovich’s allegations, however, no charges were filed and they officially concluded the investigation in April 2024.
Last year, Pavlovich initially shared her alleged encounter in a podcast on Tortoise Media. Subsequently, in January, she was among eight women who spoke out against Gaiman in an interview with New York magazine, accusing him of assault, abuse, and coercion. She asserted that both Gaiman and Palmer breached federal human trafficking laws, detailing incidents of assault, battery, emotional distress (inflicted on Gaiman), and negligence (against Palmer).
In February 2022, when she was 22, Pavlovich asserted that Gaiman sexually assaulted her in New Zealand, specifically in a backyard bathtub and under the blankets on a hotel room bed while his son was playing with an iPad nearby. These allegations were dismissed by Gaiman’s representatives as “false and deplorable” when they were first made public.
A few days following the legal action, Palmer posted on Instagram expressing, “I won’t address the particular accusations being leveled at me, apart from stating that I refute them entirely. I plan to respond formally when the time is right. I send my sympathies to all survivors.
