As a devoted fan of animated series, I was absolutely thrilled when Netflix resurrected the brilliantly crafted gem, Scavengers Reign, earlier this year. Having witnessed the unfortunate cancellation of numerous shows before, I held on to every episode with bated breath, savoring each moment like a precious treasure.
Finding a decent TV show can be challenging for many viewers, and sometimes keeping up with one can prove even more difficult. Earlier this year, an unexpected event occurred when Netflix revived a show that had previously been taken off the air. This show is none other than “Scavengers Reign”, a sci-fi animated series initially broadcast on Max but canceled despite receiving a perfect score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. Initially dropped by the streaming platform in May 2024, Netflix later showed interest and even considered producing a second season. However, it appears that the series has been canceled for a second time.
As a dedicated gamer, I was deeply saddened to learn about the cancellation of one of my favorite Netflix series from its co-creator Joe Bennett. Just yesterday, he broke the heartbreaking news on Instagram, which I believe many fans would agree, is among Netflix’s finest shows. Here’s an excerpt from his message:
Currently, there are no plans to produce another season of Scavengers Reign at this moment. I thought it was essential to communicate this information personally because I have a deep affection for our dedicated fanbase who have been fantastic supporters of the series. I wouldn’t want to keep you all in suspense.
The series centers around a team stranded on an extraterrestrial planet following their spacecraft’s crash. As they adapt to this unfamiliar habitat, they also grapple with the interpersonal challenges of coexisting. With its appealing animation, captivating script, and positive feedback, I was surprised when Max opted to cancel the show. This was all the more surprising given that Scavengers Reign was even Emmy-nominated alongside other formidable competitors.
Towards the end of his post, Joe Bennet discussed the challenges he encountered while producing the show, likening them to the hurdles experienced by the characters in his production. In his view, both instances serve as trials of determination.
From 2016, when we started with the Scavengers short film, right up to the launch of its first season last year, creating this show has been an uphill battle requiring constant effort. It serves as a prime example of the importance of determination and faith in the face of numerous obstacles. However, it finally came to fruition due to the unwavering support of countless individuals who contributed in various ways, big or small.
It’s disappointing for a devoted viewer to witness an exceptional and inventive series conclude prematurely with little clarity on the reasons behind its early termination. However, as spectators, we must acknowledge that this production is simply another addition to the list of shows canceled in 2024 – a list that also includes titles from Netflix’s lineup for their 2024 schedule.
There’s a tiny spark of optimism for those eagerly anticipating more, as Joe Bennet hinted in his Instagram post that he and his team aren’t quite ready to part ways with their project. To understand his perspective on this not being “the end”, take a look at the entirety of his post which features images from the show below:

There’s a slim possibility for it, but yes, there’s a glimmer of hope. It’s uncertain if they’ll manage to carry on with the show in the end. Still, I’m going to keep my fingers crossed that fresh episodes will air eventually.
Regardless if “Scavengers Reign” has more episodes, this series is fantastic and I wholeheartedly suggest it. If you’re a Netflix subscriber, give it a try and share your thoughts with others if you find it engaging.
