Netflix ditches five other upcoming releases alongside Don’t Starve Together

  • Netflix Games is set to ditch five other upcoming releases
  • Tales of the Shire, Rotwood and more are all on the chopping block
  • It follows the abrupt announcement that Don’t Starve Together was no longer coming to the service

It seems that Don’t Starve Together isn’t the only title being removed from Netflix’s release plans. A total of five other upcoming games, such as Tales of the Shire and Compass Point: West, will no longer be part of Netflix Games. Instead, they are either indefinitely postponed or planned for launch on different platforms.

As a dedicated fan, I’m sharing some exciting news straight from What’s on Netflix themselves. They’ve confirmed that they’ve received word from their service about some changes in their gaming lineup. It seems that games like Don’t Starve Together (which we talked about just yesterday), Compass Point: West, Lab Rat, Rotwood, Tales of the Shire, and Thirsty Suitors will no longer be added. This update is part of a broader restructuring of their gaming offerings.

It’s worth mentioning that the team from WoN has pointed out an indication from a recent call about investments at Netflix. This suggests that Netflix may be shifting its focus towards releasing narratives, similar to their successful Netflix Stories anthology series.

Hate to say I told you so…

It came as somewhat of an unexpected disappointment to learn about this news. Previously, I suggested that Netflix moving towards content releases designed to boost their streaming service might impact their overall game library. However, I hadn’t anticipated the change would happen so quickly.

One thing is expected when games like Don’t Starve Together or Compass Point: West miss out on Netflix, but with Tales of the Shire – a game tied to the highly recognized Lord of the Rings brand – it was something many were eagerly anticipating. I believe this incident sets a pattern that any content not directly linked to Netflix may be vulnerable to being removed or cancelled.
