As a long-time fan of Zac Efron and someone who has followed his career since his High School Musical days, I was excited to see him in his latest Netflix movie, A Family Affair. However, I’ve been disheartened by the harsh criticism and mean-spirited comments about his appearance that have been circulating on social media.

Zac Efron’s latest film “A Family Affair” on Netflix has garnered significant attention, yet not all of it has been positive. Critics have deemed the age-gap romantic comedy as “flat,” and viewers on social media have harshly criticized the movie. While I found some appealing aspects myself, there’s no denying that some criticism holds merit. However, uncalled-for comments about Efron’s appearance are unwarranted and insensitive. Fans seem to have forgotten about the injury he sustained, which noticeably altered his looks.

Many viewers have kept “A Family Affair” in Netflix’s Top 10 list since its release in late June. After watching this romantic comedy featuring Nicole Kidman and Joey King, numerous people have taken to Twitter to share their thoughts:

He spoke about the incident where he came close to losing his life.

In 2013, according to Men’s Health magazine, the former star of “High School Musical” suffered an injury at home while barefoot. He slipped and fell hard, crashing his face into the sharp edge of a granite fountain. Consciousness left him momentarily, and when he regained it, he found that his chin bone had detached from his face. His recovery was reportedly extensive; it involved having his jaw wired shut, undergoing plastic surgery, and enduring years of rehabilitation therapy.

After discontinuing therapy in 2021 during the production of “Down to Earth” for Netflix, he noticed that his masseter muscles became significantly larger than usual due to other facial muscles not functioning optimally. The filming of “A Family Affair” occurred shortly afterward in 2022, and it was released on Netflix in 2024.

Zac Efron appears unfazed by the discussions about his face, according to what he shared with Men’s Health during the same interview.
