As a seasoned gamer with a heart full of nostalgia and a Netflix subscription that never sleeps, I can’t help but feel like a kid on Christmas morning when such delightful surprises like this One Piece and Dragon Ball Z crossover episode drop into my lap!
Even though some people are yet to see Season 2 of “One Piece” on TV schedules for 2025, it’s important to remember you can catch a significant part of the anime series with a Netflix subscription. Although the selection isn’t as extensive as what Hulu or Crunchyroll offer, Netflix recently added an episode not available on either platform, making it a must-watch for fans!
In this new episode, we’ve added the latest “One Piece” arc, titled Punk Hazard, to our platform. This means viewers can now witness a highly anticipated and relatively rare crossover between “One Piece” and another renowned 90s anime that you likely remember fondly from your childhood.
Netflix Added The Lesser-Seen One Piece and Dragon Ball Z Crossover Special
In the year 2013, the creators of the popular series “One Piece” and “Dragon Ball Z”, Eiichiro Oda and Akira Toriyama respectively, surprised fans by sharing the limelight in episode 590 of “One Piece”, titled “The Unprecedented Collaboration: History’s Strongest vs. The Sea’s Glutton”.
This specific episode is well-recognized among One Piece fans, yet viewers streaming the show may question why it’s not an instant watch. The opening segment of this special actually occurs within the series Toriko, and is often left out when listing episodes for One Piece.
It’s during their first joint escapade in the animated series that Luffy and Goku will appear. To catch this thrilling encounter, viewers who are either ready now or finishing another story can simply access the Punk Hazard saga on Netflix and enjoy watching them battle a formidable adversary together.
Who Is Toriko And The Others Who Have Nothing To Do With One Piece And DBZ?
It’s worth mentioning that among the anime heroes embarking on this shared adventure, there’s a lesser-known trio, particularly to casual U.S. anime viewers. The story revolves around “Toriko”, the main character who is on a quest for delicious foods. This franchise adds an exciting element to the collaboration, addressing significant questions that readers might have about this crossover.
Initially, spectators will find that this episode offers a substantial overview which might give the impression they missed the beginning of the storyline. Indeed, they did miss it as the initial segment of this partnership was showcased in Episode 99 of Toriko. Regrettably, you can’t access that first part on Netflix or Crunchyroll, but the recap does a commendable job summarizing all the crucial points to keep viewers informed.
An actor from the show Cobra Kai is expressing interest in being part of Netflix’s second season of One Piece, and I wholeheartedly support this idea.
The three series you see here are associated with the Shonen Jump label, explaining their connection to this particular storyline. Despite being thrilling and enjoyable, this crossover won’t provide answers to major fan queries such as who is stronger between Luffy and Goku. Since this tale happens before Dragon Ball Daimaō, it wouldn’t address these questions anyway, given that Luffy hadn’t activated Gear 5 yet, and Goku was still unable to use Ultra Instinct at the time.
Instead of waiting idly during the gloomy break of “One Piece”, I felt compelled to watch this immediately. Although I initially disliked the idea of revisiting the frequently criticized Fishman Island arc through the ongoing remaster, it turned out to be a delightful way for me to express my affection for the series. With only about half an hour spent on it, it helped pass the time, which I was grateful for!
As a gamer, I’m currently immersed in streaming “One Piece” on Netflix – an anime I highly recommend, even if you’ve missed out previously. It’s quite a lengthy series, but trust me, the investment of time is rewarding. If you’re seeking something captivating for a binge-watch, this pirate adventure should be at the top of your list!
