- Netflix is reportedly stepping back from interactive moves and games
- According to recent news, it’ll be dumping all currently available ones by December
- A greater emphasis is set to be placed on regular games
As a gamer who’s been around the block a few times, I’ve seen the rise and fall of many gaming trends. But the demise of Netflix’s foray into interactive movies and games feels like a punch to the gut.
It’s worth noting that sometimes, not participating can be the best strategy for success, and this seems particularly applicable in the realm of mobile gaming, given the latest updates. As per recent reports from Game Developer, there are speculations that Netflix might withdraw their entire collection of interactive movies and shows by as early as December 1st.
Although the future of significant productions like Bandersnatch remains uncertain, it has been announced by the creator of Battle Kitty that this show will be taken off Netflix’s programming soon. This marks an unflattering conclusion to an intriguing endeavor and a concerning moment in media conservation, as there is no available platform for watching these shows or films other than Netflix.
Game over
Netflix has been hinting at changes regarding their interactive shows since as early as January. However, the recent news about Netflix shutting down their well-known AAA game studio, Team Blue, has certainly caused us to ponder.
While Netflix’s gaming division seems promising, considering the attention garnered by Bandersnatch and their interactive content, it’s understandable if you have concerns about potential reductions in their traditional game services. This is especially true given that the platform appears to be heavily investing in AI as a significant new project.
It’s unfortunate that we don’t have a compiled collection of top Netflix gaming titles, especially considering the opportunity to acquire renowned games such as Hades or notable indie games like Into the Breach at essentially no cost is one of the appealing aspects of Netflix Games. While I initially thought interactive shows and movies might not last long on their platform, this sudden shift in direction seems hasty.
