“Elite” is a Spanish television show that combines drama, thriller, and murder mystery elements, created by Carlos Montero and Dario Madrona. This series first appeared on Netflix in 2018 and has run for eight seasons with a total of 64 episodes. Each season consists of eight episodes, but new characters are brought in every year. For example, Season 1 introduces Nadia (played by Mina El Hammani), Samuel (Itzan Escamilla), and Christian (Miguel Herrán). They all attend Las Encinas, a fictional private high school in Madrid for the affluent, influential, and powerful elite.”

With fresh faces joining the cast annually, a fresh murder ensues, propelling our trio into investigative work to uncover truths. Simultaneously, the stark divide between wealth and poverty fosters an atmosphere of suspicion, frequently casting doubt on Nadia and Samuel due to their social standing. As the series progressed into its eighth year, each season kicked off with a murder mystery that unfolded in reverse for both the characters and viewers to decipher. Initially, the narrative foundation was laid by Polo’s (Alvaro Rico) demise in seasons 2 and 3.

In Season 4, the child of the newly appointed school principal experiences harm. The following season, Samuel’s demise causes a significant upheaval in the storyline. By Season 6, a student named Ivan (Andre Lamoglia) meets a tragic accident by getting hit by a car, triggering an investigation. The show starts with a flash-forward in Season 7, showing Raul’s (Alex Pastrana) murder. In Season 8, the death of Joel (Linsez) sets off a series of enigmatic events that drive the entire eight-episode storyline.

In Season 7, we meet Joel Castellano, a quiet and compassionate student at Las Encinas. During this season, Joel finds himself in a relationship with Omar Shanaa (played by Omar Ayuso), the longest-standing main character on Elite and Nadia’s brother. Despite their seemingly strong bond, Joel ends his relationship with Omar in Season 7 and embarks on a passionate romance with Ivan, who recovers from a car accident around the same time.

In Season 8, Joel and Ivan carry on their relationship, but it encounters turbulence. Amidst their strained romance, Joel finds himself drawn into an affair with a new student at Las Encinas, Hector (played by Nuno Gallego). Alongside his sister Emilia (Ane Rot), Hector and Emilia are pioneers of the school’s Alumni Club, aiming to recruit fresh members. After Joel becomes involved with Hector, he embarks on a new path, working as a sex worker at high-end parties and private orgies organized by the Alumni Club. These events frequently take place in the rooms of Isadora’s nightclub, Isadora House, where Joel engages in sexual activities with strangers.

As a follower, in Season 6, I, Luis (Alejandro Albarracin), take up my position as a supervisor at Las Encinas following a school shooting. Intrigued by the Isadora House, I keep a watchful eye on it throughout Season 8. One day, I uncover that Isa permits the Alumni Club to host sex parties. Instead of reporting this, I decide to use this information as leverage against her, blackmailing Isa. When Isa confides in Joel about my blackmail, his murder starts to make more sense to me.

In Season 8 of the teen Netflix mystery, Luis becomes more determined to enrich himself by blackmailing Isa. In response, Isa approaches Joel and asks him to use his Alumni Club contacts to help her deal with Luis. Joel agrees, unaware of the deadly ripple effect that would follow. After agreeing, Joel confronts Luis and warns him to back off Isa. It’s also important to note that Luis arrests Isa’s father at the end of Season 7, and she still harbors a grudge.

After Joel orders Luis to cease his money-extorting scheme against Isa, Luis fears losing his job and influence within the police force, leading him to plot murder. Specifically, he tracks down Joel in one of the Alumni Clubrooms with the intention of killing him in his sleep. Unfortunately, Joel awakens just in time, causing Luis to lunge for a nearby knife from the bedside table and fatally stab Joel in cold blood. By the time Hector arrived at Joel’s lifeless body, he had already succumbed to his fatal wounds due to the knife attack.

In a twist that left me stunned, I find myself taking justice into my own hands when Isa and I are trapped within the Isadora House alongside the treacherous Luis. With the police hot on his trail, leading them to the nightclub and searching for him, I make the decision to administer a deadly dose of poison to Luis. However, he manages to counter my move at the last second, reverses the situation, and drugs me instead. Fortunately, the authorities arrive just in time, and as they carry him away, I manage to inject the poison into his system. The poison quickly takes effect, and Luis meets his end almost immediately. In doing so, I bring retribution upon Luis for arresting my father and extorting me. The series Las Encinas is permanently closed at the conclusion of the teen TV drama.

Elite is available to stream on Netflix.
