As a dedicated cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that my beloved series, Netflix’s “One Piece,” has wrapped up its Season 2 filming. The fervent followers of this globally acclaimed franchise can now catch a glimpse of the eagerly awaited comeback of the Straw Hat Pirates. This iconic series, born from the creative mind of Eiichiro Oda, has been a cultural phenomenon for over two decades, gracing the hearts of millions worldwide. The record-breaking anime version was instrumental in its popularity, but it was Netflix that took the plunge to adapt this enduring tale into live-action back in 2023. Following a critically praised first season, “One Piece” is gearing up for a grand return, promising an even more spectacular rendition of some of the manga’s most iconic story arcs.
Netflix shared on their social platforms that filming for Season 2 of One Piece has come to an end. Alongside the update, a fresh photo from the Cape Town, South Africa shoot was unveiled. Monkey D. Luffy, played by Iñaki Godoy, and his team don new appearances in this image, visiting a famous location that dedicated fans will swiftly identify. Arranged from left to right, Sanji (Taz Skylar), Zoro (Mackenyu), Luffy, Nami (Emily Rudd), and Usopp (Jacob Romero Gibson) are spotted in Loguetown. This is the location they visit just prior to their journey to the Grand Line. Notably absent from the photo are other characters anticipated to appear during this storyline, such as Captain Buggy (Jeff Ward) and Smoke (Callum Kerr).
In Season 2 of One Piece, we can anticipate the adaptation of several famous storylines from the comic, along with the introduction of cherished characters who might join the Straw Hat Pirates. The character Charithra Chandra is set to appear as Vivi, also known as Miss Wednesday, a puzzling member of the Baroque Works crime syndicate who interacts with our main pirate team. Moreover, long-awaited villains from the series will emerge, such as Joe Manganiello portraying Crocodile (Mr. 0) and Lera Abova as Miss All Sunday. Regrettably, we don’t know when these characters will first appear in the show; however, it is hoped that their debut comes sooner rather than later.
When Will ‘One Piece’ Season 2 Arrive on Netflix?
Although no specific date has been given yet for the premiere of “One Piece” Season 2, it appears that Netflix may be planning its release for 2026, as it was not included in their 2025 schedule. However, there’s a chance it might arrive by the end of this year. There have been whispers about a potential Christmas season launch, which could align well since most of the upcoming season unfolds on a winter island and introduces the character Tony Tony Chopper, who resembles a human-like reindeer.
The extended delay between seasons could be attributed to the extensive post-production required for Season 2, particularly because Netflix is opting for Computer-Generated Imagery (CGI) for Chopper. Given its significance to the series, One Piece will likely remain costly and labor-intensive for the streaming platform. However, it’s been rumored that production on a third season has already started and might begin airing before Season 2 even premieres on Netflix. In the meantime, fans should anticipate the return of One Piece sometime in 2026 or possibly this year itself.
