As a devoted cinematic enthusiast with an unyielding fondness for romantic comedies, particularly those that strike the perfect balance between heartwarming and humorous, I must say that the announcement of Peter Kavinsky’s return in XO, Kitty has sent me into a whirlwind of excitement.

Following a triumphant first season, Netflix’s “XO, Kitty” has been confirmed to make its comeback as part of the 2025 TV lineup. A spinoff of the beloved romantic comedy series “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before”, this young-adult dramedy focuses on Kitty (Anna Cathcart), as she adapts to life in South Korea and navigates school, relationships, and uncovering secrets about her mother’s past. Excitingly, with Season 2 on the horizon, all our favorite characters are expected to return, and it has been revealed that a popular figure from the original films will also be joining in!

As a dedicated movie enthusiast, I must say that the first season brilliantly chronicled Kitty’s transformation, maintaining a modest number of guest appearances, which made it easier for viewers to bond with her new companions. It was widely assumed that this approach would carry over into Season 2. However, Netflix recently unveiled the official trailer, and lo and behold, there was an unexpected return from beloved character Peter Kavinsky! Yes, Peter is back in action, and I can’t help but speculate about why he’s reappeared.

Peter Kavinsky Is Headed To South Korea

As a die-hard movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that the trailer for Season 2 of “XO, Kitty” gives us a tantalizing sneak peek at what’s in store. It subtly hints at a familiar figure from our past, leaving us guessing who it might be. Lo and behold, it unveils none other than Peter Kavinsky (Noah Centineo), resplendent in his Stanford gear, naturally. For those of you who aren’t completely smitten with the “To All The Boys” trilogy or don’t binge-watch it every chance they get, let me remind you that Peter is none other than Kitty’s big sister, Lara Jean’s (Lana Condor) boyfriend.

Kitty plays a significant role in Peter’s romantic involvement with Lara Jean’s sister, as she was the one who sent out Lara Jean’s love letters in the first movie. At first, Kitty was hesitant about Peter, but he managed to charm her by offering school rides and ensuring she never felt left out when she joined them. Despite being younger, Kitty frequently provided insightful advice to both Peter and Lara Jean, aiming to strengthen their relationship.

Throughout the trilogy, I found myself utterly smitten with Peter, a fact that seemed to resonate strongly among fans, as evidenced by their fervent responses when they heard about his upcoming guest appearance. And it looks like he remains everyone’s top pick for fictional beau!

I Have A Few Theories As To Why Peter Is Back

Towards the conclusion of “To All The Boys: Always and Forever,” Peter departed for Stanford University, while Lara Jean chose NYU. Remarkably, they maintained their relationship despite the distance, as Kitty revealed in Season 2. The chronology between the last film and “XO, Kitty” is somewhat confusing, but given that Peter is seen wearing his Stanford sweater, it’s likely that both he and LJ are still students at their respective colleges.

Which begs the question, why is he in South Korea if he should be in California?

Initially, I assumed he was enrolled in an exchange program in South Korea to grasp Lara Jean’s origins better. But considering the plot of ‘XO, Kitty’, it seems unlikely that Centineo would play a significant role, as suggested by the trailer.

After giving it some thought, the only explanation I could think of is that he’s purposely paying Kitty a visit for some more relationship advice. After all, Kitty is a pro on long-distance relationships, having been in one with Dae while still in middle school. Of course, he could have just called, but Peter is known for his grand gestures, and showing up in person for advice from his girlfriend’s sister is about as grand as it gets.

Regarding Peter and Lara Jean’s relationship, there’s a chance he traveled to South Korea to seek Kitty’s approval before proposing marriage to her. Although they are quite young, the series suggests their connection is strong and destined. Given how significant Kitty is to Lara Jean, it seems logical that Peter would consult her opinion directly.

As a film enthusiast, it’s not hard to imagine that Peter might be there for Kitty due to some assistance she needs. It wouldn’t be surprising if Kitty confided in Lara Jean about her relationship woes and, knowing Peter, he’d be in the loop. With Lara Jean’s schedule being packed at school, it seems plausible that Peter could swing by to lend a hand to his beloved little sister.

Regardless of the circumstances, it’s certain that Peter’s appearance will undoubtedly stand out as a captivating moment in what promises to be an enthralling season filled with suspenseful drama and youthful mischief.

Beginning January 16th, Netflix subscribers will gain access to Season 2 of “XO, Kitty.” To get yourself ready for the upcoming episodes, feel free to catch up by streaming the first season as well as all three movies in the “To All The Boys” series currently available on the platform.
