Their governance follows an older, traditional model, with Governor Charlie Byrd presiding, supported by other influential figures. Perlie Armstrong holds the rank of Colonel, and Lucia Narvaez serves as Major. This hierarchy grants them more power than typical marshals or citizens.
As a devoted follower, I must confess that this supposed pathway back to normal society seems deceptively appealing. Yet, the laws they uphold too frequently serve as tools for manipulation rather than justice. In a chilling display of power, Lucia ordered the public execution of an individual accused of desertion – a man whose conscription was essentially coerced. This grim act reveals the true nature of this faction: it’s less about fostering peace and more about imposing their dogmatic beliefs with brutal force. In many aspects, the New Babylon Federation feels eerily reminiscent of a sinister substitute for The Walking Dead’s CRM, both cloaking their extreme measures and systemic inequalities behind the façade that they are fighting for some higher moral purpose in the name of the greater good.

However, this wasn’t the only factor that led the Bricks to comply; it was disclosed that New Babylon had severed trade ties with Maggie’s group, essentially compelling them to abide by the Federation’s laws even though Maggie opposed this measure.
In simpler terms, the takeover raises a plot inconsistency like Rick Grimes’ storyline because it seems none of the main settlements under New Babylon’s rule for about two years aided the Bricks, despite having the resources to do so. Although it may seem that New Babylon’s intentions were noble, their true goal wasn’t altruistic. They compelled people to join their military forces because they coveted the methane reserves of Croat and Dama, which had been fueling sections of Manhattan. Contrary to what they told the Bricks about the island being overrun by barbarians, they omitted the fact that Manhattan’s factions had grown in power, possibly due to their own lack of readiness. Unfortunately for New Babylon, their plan to catch Croat unaware during their sea voyage to the island failed miserably as their ship was swiftly attacked, resulting in the loss of many soldiers.
As I sat down to watch this thrilling episode of The Walking Dead spinoff, I was captivated by the survivors’ ingenious adaptability. Yet, it appears their relentless pursuit to take over the methane operation in New Babylon might lead them astray.
Their meticulous planning for this mission may have seemed foolproof, but their disregard of Maggie’s advice has proven costly so far. With Hershel now seemingly allied with the Dama, it seems New Babylon will need to swiftly devise a new tactic.

Is The New Babylon Federation Another Walking Dead Villain Group?
The Group Looks Just As Evil As The Dama & The Croat’s Community
In contrast to their portrayal as the ‘good guys’, New Babylon appears to be a new evil force within The Walking Dead. They have been coercing the Bricks into allegiance, enforcing compulsory military service, and publically executing civilians, making it evident that they are far from friendly. In fact, despite their opposition to other main antagonists in the spinoff, they are equally ruthless. This is due to their willingness to sacrifice soldiers for what they call the greater good. Moreover, many members of New Babylon exhibit traits commonly associated with villains, Major Narvaez and Governor Byrd being particularly noteworthy examples.
Narvaez wielded her power cheerfully, jailing Maggie for striking her and dispatching Hershel with her, even though he was an innocent teenager. While Byrd might not seem malicious, she seemed to be in control of the situation and was content to let Maggie and Ginny battle 20 zombies alone, demonstrating that she shares the blame. Characters like Perlie and Benjamin have a sense of right and wrong, but they are still unaware of the true nature of events, making them partially responsible for New Babylon’s actions, as they have yet to try to intervene.
