As a long-time fan of the Dune universe, I can barely contain my excitement for the upcoming prequel series, Dune: Prophecy. The new teaser only fuels my anticipation further, with Emily Watson’s ominous declaration of “Sacrifices must be made” echoing in my mind.
As a devoted fan of Dune, I can hardly contain my excitement as we approach the release of the new prequel series, Dune: Prophecy. This expansion of the mythology is something truly special, transporting us back thousands of years before the events depicted in Denis Villeneuve’s successful film adaptations. The fact that these stories are rooted in Frank Herbert’s original works only adds to the anticipation. Recently, HBO unveiled a captivating teaser trailer for the series, which is set to premiere in November.
As a lifelong fan of science fiction and someone who has eagerly followed the development of the new Dune film adaptation, I’m thrilled to see the release of the second teaser for Dune: Prophecy. With its intriguing dialogue and fresh footage, this minute-long video promises an enthralling and dramatic journey.
Dune: Prophecy Takes Place 10,000 Years Before the Events of the Films
Dune: Prophecy, penned by Diane Ademu-Joh, is influenced by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson’s novel Sisterhood of Dune. Set 10,000 years prior to the film storyline, this series introduces Valya and Tula Harkonnen, portrayed by Watson and Olivia Williams, as well as the inception of the Bene Gesserit, an influential sisterhood that gains extraordinary powers to safeguard mankind. The ensemble cast includes Travis Fimmel, Jodhi May, Mark Strong, Sarah Sofie Boussnina, Josh Heuston, Chloe Lea, Jade Anouka, Faoileann Cunningham, Edward Davis, Aoife Hinds, Chris Mason, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Camilla Beeput, Jihae Tabu, Charithra Chandran, Jessica Barden, Emma Canning, and Yerin Ha.
Back in 2016, when Legendary Entertainment gained control over both the film and television rights for Dune, the production of Dune: Prophecy started. Villeneuve took charge of the movies, resulting in Dune and Dune: Part Two. In 2019, Legendary Television officially commissioned Dune: Prophecy as a series. Since then, there have been numerous adjustments to the project, but most recently, Alison Schapker has taken on the role of showrunner and Anna Foerster has been appointed to direct multiple episodes.
As a long-time fan of Frank Herbert’s “Dune” novels, I was thrilled when I heard that a new adaptation was in the works. I had planned to stream it on Max, as that seemed like the most convenient option for someone with a busy schedule. But then, news broke out that “Dune: Prophecy” would now be premiering on HBO instead.
The Dune series is experiencing great triumph following the successful release of Dune: Part Two. This movie received outstanding criticism and earned the title of one of the top-grossing films in 2024, raking in $282.1 million in the US and $712 million globally. As a result, plans for an adaptation of Frank Herbert’s Dune Messiah are underway due to this film’s impressive performance.
Dune: Prophecy
will debut on HBO this November.
