New MCU Rumor Reveals Who is Replacing the Council of Kangs

As a long-time Marvel enthusiast who’s been following the MCU since its inception, I must say, the latest rumors about the upcoming Avengers films have me absolutely thrilled! The idea of replacing the Council of Kangs with the Barons of Battleworld is nothing short of genius.

Despite swapping Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror with Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom in upcoming Avengers sequels, it appears that Marvel Studios has a unique approach to handle the Council of Kangs. Instead of simply disappearing, there are whispers suggesting that they may be replaced, according to recent gossip. Intriguingly, the MCU might introduce an entirely new roster of villains for the Avengers to confront, alongside Doctor Doom.

In a Q&A session on Cosmic Circus Discord, Marvel insider Alex Perez shared insights about the upcoming Avengers movies and the broader MCU. When inquired about the likelihood of ‘Secret Wars’ incorporating the idea of “Barons,” Perez expressed agreement and hinted that his sources suggest them as a replacement for the Council of Kangs. For those unaware, the antagonists being referred to are the ‘Baron of Battleworld’, who are believed to be the villains on the multiverse battle planet where Secret Wars is expected to take place.

Based on my research, it’s speculated that there could be supporting antagonists in the forthcoming Avengers movies, much like Thanos and the Black Order were in Infinity War and Endgame. These new villains might step into the roles previously held by the Council of Kangs, who were initially intended to challenge the Avengers separately (e.g., Rama Tut, Centurion, and Immortus). However, at this point, it remains unclear who will take their place.

What makes the rumor intriguing is that it was suggested that the Council of Kangs were intended to serve as adversaries for the Avengers, similar to Thanos’ Black Order in the films “Infinity War” and “Endgame.” This implies that fan-favorite heroes like Captain Marvel, Spider-Man, Captain America, and others might have fought against the Kangs not only in the canceled “Avengers: Kang Dynasty,” but also in “Secret Wars.” It’s regrettable that the MCU invested time in a villain who won’t appear after “Ant-Man: Quantumania,” but the potential replacement could prove to be even more captivating.

In the upcoming movies, “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars,” Robert Downey Jr. will play the main antagonist (and Marvel Studios are going all out financially for this). Since the Kang variants aren’t an option, it’s logical to introduce a fresh batch of villains to challenge the MCU’s superheroes instead. In the comics, these villains were collectively known as the “Baron’s of Battleworld,” which included alternate universe versions of Doctor Strange, Bruce Banner, Morgan Le Fay, and more. To put it simply, this unanticipated group of baddies could be seen as a “Multiversal Masters of Evil.

In my upcoming analysis, I’ll admit it’s largely a hunch, but considering what I’ve shared before, it wouldn’t shock me if the Barons turn out to be an adaptation of the Multiverse’s Masters of Evil. It’s also plausible that they might reassemble the original six Avengers as the members of this villainous group, given Robert Downey Jr.’s transformation into Doom.

Following the reveal at San Diego Comic-Con, some thought that in “Avengers: Doomsday,” they would opt for a variety of Doctor Doom characters rather than Kangs. However, if the recent whispers are true, shifting the Council into a team of multiverse antagonists might be a more thrilling shift of direction. Given that Secret Wars is likely to unfold on Battleworld, it seems like an ideal opportunity to steer clear of Kang and delve into villains that expand the scope of the MCU instead.
