New On Netflix, Disney+, And More: 5 Streaming Shows And Movies To Watch This Week (September 2 -8)

As a seasoned gamer and streaming enthusiast with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must say that September has always been a golden month for me. The summer blockbusters are fading away, making room for the hidden gems that the streaming services have been saving up all year.

Autumn has arrived, even though summer officially continues for a while longer. However, it’s now when movie theaters usually transition from big-budget blockbusters to other offerings. This makes it an ideal moment to explore the top content on streaming platforms. If you’re eager to discover what’s fresh on Netflix or what’s coming soon to Disney+, we’ve got you covered with this week’s recommendations.

This week promises an impressive lineup in animation, as both Disney+ and Max debut fresh content that’s definitely worth checking out. Additionally, there are several high-end series set to premiere soon. If you’re seeking something thought-provoking or just plain fun, here are a few must-see titles making their streaming debut this week.

LEGO Pixar: BrickToons ( Disney+) – September 4

When it comes to past performances, movies and shows that adopt the LEGO style and format tend to be quite decent, even though none may surpass the greatness of “The LEGO Movie”. Generally speaking, series and films based on Disney brands such as Marvel, Star Wars, and Disney Princesses are entertaining, providing a chuckle at the very least. Now, joining the fun for those with a Disney+ subscription is Pixar, offering “LEGO Pixar: Bricktoons” – a collection of animated shorts where beloved characters like those from “The Incredibles” and “Finding Nemo” are transformed into cute LEGO figures.

Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist (Peacock) – September 5

Kevin Hart has been strengthening ties with NBC Universal and its Peacock streaming service, as multiple shows he’s produced are featured on the platform. Now, subscribers of Peacock will witness Hart in an uncommon dramatic role in “Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist“, a series based on a true-life robbery that took place during a Muhammad Ali prize fight. Joining Hart is a stellar cast including Taraji P. Henson, Don Cheadle, Samuel L. Jackson, among others.

The Perfect Couple (Netflix) – September 5

It appears that Nicole Kidman takes pleasure in creating series adapted from books. Previously starring in “Big Little Lies” and “Expats,” she is now joining Liev Schreiber as the main characters of “The Perfect Couple,” a pair who, without giving away any spoilers, may not be as perfect as their title suggests.

New Movies

The Boy and the Heron (Max) – September 6

This year’s Academy Award for Best Animated Feature didn’t end up with a movie from Disney or Pixar, but instead went to “The Boy and the Heron,” a new production by Hayao Miyazaki. Often referred to as Japan’s Walt Disney, Miyazaki, with each of his films, makes this comparison more meaningful. This latest film from him is one that certainly justifies his decision to come out of retirement and create it.

Edge Of Tomorrow (Netflix) – September 7

For years now, enthusiasts have been clamoring for a follow-up to Tom Cruise’s “Edge of Tomorrow,” and although we’re yet to find out if a sequel will actually materialize, there’s no disputing that the original movie is top-notch. It caters to everyone’s taste. If you’re a fan of Tom Cruise, you’ll appreciate one of his finest action roles, and even if you’re not a Cruise admirer, the film offers plenty of scenes featuring Cruise getting destroyed multiple times. After a long hiatus, it’s finally coming to Netflix this week.

The remainder of September appears promising across significant streaming services, so don’t forget to keep up with all the content. A fresh wave of excellent series and films is about to be released.
