2024 is about to wrap up, marking the commencement of the 2025 TV schedules and movie lineups in full swing. It’s become customary for the start of each new month to bring a significant change in content on numerous top-tier streaming services, as a multitude of movies and shows are taken off one platform, making way for a flood of fresh content. But with the year coming to an end, this shift seems particularly pronounced.
January is a big month for streaming, and the big releases arrive almost immediately, with some of Netflix’s big premieres making a huge wave in live television. As far as what’s upcoming on Disney+ or what’s on the way for other streaming platforms, there’s plenty to get you through the end of the year and celebrating 2025 in style. Strap in.
Skeleton Crew, Episode 6 – December 31 (Disney+)
It’s always a great time to subscribe to Disney+ these days as each week introduces a fresh episode from the youth-oriented adventure series “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew“. With last week’s unexpected yet predictable turn of events, fans are buzzing with questions that might find their answers when the next episode premieres on New Year’s Eve, giving them ample time to watch it before the clock strikes midnight.
New Year’s Eve Broadcasts – December 31 (Paramount+, Max)
This week marks New Year’s Eve, a global event filled with joyous celebrations as we welcome the new year. Traditionally, the midnight celebrations are quite spectacular and this year, you can catch some of the action streaming live too. One of the most-watched shows during this time is “New Year’s Eve Live with Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen”, which can be streamed live if you have a Max subscription.
If country tunes are your preference and you’re a Paramount+ subscriber, you can ring in the New Year with excitement at the “Jack Daniel’s New Year’s Eve Live: Nashville’s Big Bash”.
WWE Archive – January 1 (Netflix)
WWE stirred quite a buzz when they agreed to air their main show, Raw, live on Netflix starting from next week. Prior to the premiere of the latest episode, a selection of historical WWE content such as past Raw episodes, weekly shows, and premium live events will be available on the platform from the get-go. This is aimed at bringing both old and potential new fans up to speed before things kick off in earnest next Monday.
AEW – January 1 (Max)
As a lifelong wrestling fan and someone who grew up watching WWE’s Monday Night Raw and Saturday morning cartoons, I am thrilled to see AEW making the jump to streaming beginning in January. For years, I’ve been yearning for more options in the world of professional wrestling, and it looks like my prayers have finally been answered.
I remember the excitement I felt when AEW first hit the scene and brought a fresh, innovative approach to the sport. Now, with their regular Wednesday night show, AEW Dynamite, streaming live with a Max subscription on January 1, I can’t wait to tune in and see what they have in store for us fans.
But that’s not all – AEW will also be making five classic events from 2019 available for viewing, giving us the chance to re-live some of the most memorable moments from the past year. And if that wasn’t enough, AEW Collision will begin weekly livestreams on Saturday January 4, providing even more opportunities for fans to get their wrestling fix.
I can hardly contain my excitement – this is a major step forward for AEW and the wrestling world as a whole. I have high hopes for what they’ll bring to the table in the coming year and can’t wait to see how they continue to push the boundaries of what professional wrestling can be. Bring on January 1, I say!
Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl – January 3 (Netflix)
Previously, a Wallace & Gromit movie graced the big screen and won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Therefore, film enthusiasts should keep an eye out for “Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl,” which is now available on Netflix this week. This new production has garnered a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, suggesting it’s another impressive stop-motion animation that deserves a watch.
Thw 2025 Golden Globes – January 5 (Paramount+)
As a movie enthusiast, I can hardly contain my excitement as the Golden Globes kick off this coming Sunday! Streaming live on Paramount+, these prestigious awards mark the beginning of awards season. While some may question its predictive power regarding the Oscars, it undeniably serves as Hollywood’s grand opening to honor the outstanding films and television series from the preceding year that we all have cherished.
2025 seems to have promising beginnings based on the initial days I’ve experienced so far. If this is a taste of what the whole year holds, it promises to be quite exceptional!
