NewJeans Rebrands as NJZ Following Departure from ADOR

Following their departure from label ADOR, the K-pop group NewJeans has officially changed its name to NJZ.

The five-member group officially announced their rebranding in a statement, sharing with CNN that this change represents one method they are using to transform a challenging phase into something more thrilling. NJZ is making efforts to prevent their high-profile disagreement with their former record label from overshadowing their careers. Hanni explained, “Although we must let go of our old name temporarily, we don’t intend to completely move on from it. We cherish that time as NewJeans and want to keep some connection to it because it was a particularly meaningful period for us, and I believe our fans feel the same way.

Hanni hinted at a significant shift from what fans have come to expect from NJZ, saying, “It’s going to be quite unlike anything they’re used to… and the initial impression we gave.” She added that the group would be venturing into more daring and experimental performances. Previously, they aimed for a ‘girl next door’ image, but now they are opting for a sharper, bolder look. Additionally, they expressed their fondness for streetwear and unisex clothing, suggesting this style will also influence their upcoming fashion line.

In November 2024, the team declared their separation from the HYBE-owned division, alleging mistreatment towards them and their staff, as well as numerous inconsistencies, intentional misinformation, and manipulation in various aspects. The label is currently filing a lawsuit against the group and seeking a court order to prohibit NJZ from engaging in advertising agreements. A preliminary hearing for this injunction has been scheduled for March. Fellow member Danielle remains optimistic, expressing confidence that they will prevail in this legal dispute.
