A sneak peek from the set of the upcoming live-action remake of Masters of the Universe gives us a glimpse of Nicholas Galitzine, best known for his roles in Red, White & Royal Blue and Bottoms, portraying the muscular warrior. His physique definitely seems to match the role, along with his glorious, golden locks. Sharing the screen with Camila Mendes and Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson, Galitzine certainly projects a powerful presence. In fact, even standing next to a genuine colossus like a former World’s Strongest Man champion and Game of Thrones star, he still appears robust. Last year in May, it was disclosed that Liam Cunningham (known for roles such as “Cinderella,” “Purple Hearts,” “Bottoms,” “Red, White & Royal Blue,” and “The Idea of You”) will be spearheading the portrayal of the ’80s figurehead He-Man in Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel’s revamped Masters Of The Universe, set to debut on June 5, 2026. Cunningham has openly shared his commitment to transforming himself into He-Man, a dedication that appears to have yielded impressive results.
There’s no need to worry, I simply need to portray the mightiest being in the cosmos. It involves a lot of eating and weight training, as well as performing various stunts. I consume approximately 4,000 calories daily, but despite all the physical exertion, I find myself still feeling hungry at the end of the day, which is quite unexpected. This part is actually enjoyable for me.
In due course, I’ll enter a stage referred to as the ‘cutting phase’. During this period, I will be on a strict diet and may behave rudely towards others. I want to offer my sincerest apologies for any changes in my behavior that you might notice over the next few months.
The ‘Masters of the Universe’ Cast Counts Idris Elba & Jared Leto Among Its Ranks
Director Travis Knight, known for movies like ParaNorman and Bumblebee, has been appointed to lead the Masters of the Universe film project. This shift comes as Amazon MGM Studios took over after the initiative was dropped at Netflix. Since then, Chris Butler, a long-time collaborator of Knight (who worked on films like ParaNorman and Kubo and the Two Strings with him), has rewritten the script. The new version is based on an original draft written by David Callaham and Aaron & Adam Nee.
Originally slated for a Netflix release by directors Adam and Aaron Nee, featuring Kyle Allen as He-Man, this project was abandoned in July 2023. Back then, it was speculated that Netflix had invested approximately $30-60 million into its production, with escalating costs being the primary factor leading to the cancellation of the live-action Masters of the Universe.
The project features an impressive lineup of actors for its main roles, with Galitzine playing Prince Adam (also known as He-Man). This talented group includes Camila Mendes portraying Teela, Jared Leto as Skeletor, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, Sam C. Wilson as Trap Jaw, Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson as Goat Man, and Idris Elba in the role of Man-At-Arms. While specifics about the plot are still being kept secret, whispers suggest that the story will unfold with Prince Adam having been abandoned on Earth as an infant. Later in life, he finds his Power Sword, which transports him back to Eternia, where he must battle against the malevolent power of Skeletor.
