As a lifelong fan of Clint Eastwood’s cinematic masterpieces, witnessing Nicholas Hoult and Toni Collette express their admiration for the iconic director at the AFI Fest premiere of “Juror #2” was nothing short of exhilarating. The camaraderie and mutual respect that permeate through Eastwood’s set are palpable, and it’s clear that he has not only built a community of talented collaborators but also left an indelible mark on their lives.
94-year-old Clint Eastwood returns with courtroom drama titled “Juror #2“, where we follow a juror in a high-stakes murder case grappling with a complex ethical quandary, which may impact the trial’s outcome.
At the premiere of the film during AFI Fest in Los Angeles on Sunday, Nicholas Hoult, who plays the juror, shared with The Hollywood Reporter how it was a dream come true to work alongside the legendary director, having grown up watching his films.
In a twist on the usual advice, “don’t meet your heroes,” it’s truly extraordinary to actually encounter one’s idols in this instance. This man is not just cool and collected, but exudes an effortless charisma that permeates his life and interactions with others. There’s a sparkle in his eye, a wit about him, and he always manages to keep things light-hearted.
Toni Collette, playing the role of the prosecutor in this trial, expressed her feelings by saying, “I would have gone to any lengths for Clint, I can hardly believe I got the chance to collaborate with him. He’s an exceptional director, creating a remarkable work environment filled with freedom, connection, and camaraderie on set.” The impressive ensemble features J.K. Simmons, Kiefer Sutherland, Zoey Deutch, Leslie Bibb, and Chris Messina as well.
In the absence of Eastwood, who missed the premiere and currently in his late 90s, there’s a general feeling that this movie might be his final production. However, his team seems to be keeping an optimistic stance on the matter, as Hoult prefers not to predict the future for Eastwood and instead is grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with him during filming.
Collette stated, “He continues to work at his own pace. During the writers and actors’ strike, I asked him, ‘What have you been up to?’ He replied, ‘I’m searching for new material but can’t seem to find any.’ So he’s incredibly creative, a true artist through and through.
In the movie, Gabriel Basso, who portrays the accused murderer, playfully suggested that Clint Eastwood’s current film might be his last, saying, “I have this feeling that if people claim this is his final one, he’ll respond with ‘Fooled you all again! I’m making another one,’ even if it’s a brief five-minute production. I just know that he’ll find a way to outsmart everyone.
Juror #2 will hit select theaters on Friday.
