Currently, he’s quite occupied due to his recent involvement in numerous high-profile movie roles such as Robert Eggers’ “Nosferatu” and the upcoming Lex Luthor in this summer’s “Superman.” Yet, it appears there’s another comic book character that he might consider reprising, despite its seeming extremely unlikely. That character is none other than the Beast from Marvel Comics.
Before landing his current role in James Gunn’s DCU, Hoult portrayed Beast in Fox’s X-Men franchise, depicting a younger iteration of the character previously played by Kelsey Grammer in the initial X-Men films. Although Grammer has returned to the role in the MCU, providing voiceovers for the new CGI version of Hank McCoy/Beast seen in The Marvels, it appears that Hoult might also be open to reprising his role again.
At MegaCon Orlando, Houlton expressed to CBR his dream roles for future projects, and it appears he harbors a lingering affection for his fuzzy, blue mutant character. Yet, he seems content with merely observing as someone else takes on the part, despite his readiness to dive back into that role. He stated:
“I still have a fondness for my furry, blue mutant character, but I’m okay with watching someone else play it. If given the chance, I would gladly step back into that role again.
“I have many ideas about working with Lex Luthor, and I’d like to explore those for some time. It’s intriguing to me too, seeing how Marvel will handle the X-Men. If given the chance, it would be an honor to reprise the role of Beast again.
Nicholas Hoult Has Expressed A Wish To Play Beast Again Before
As an avid fan, I can’t help but notice the intriguing puzzle pieces that are subtly falling into place regarding the X-Men team in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). While some familiar faces from the Fox franchise have reappeared in Deadpool and Wolverine, and Grammer seems poised to lend his voice again for the Beast variant seen in The Marvels’ post-credits scene, it remains a mystery whether a new actor will step into the role of McCoy, should he make an appearance in the MCU at all.
Regardless of the circumstances, Hoult has expressed his willingness to reprise his role if given the opportunity, as this was a topic they discussed five years ago when the Fox franchise concluded and Disney took over the X-Men from Marvel Studios. Back then, Hoult himself mentioned that the character’s final appearance in “Dark Phoenix” marked a potential return.
I found that development quite enjoyable, and I’m constantly intrigued by how characters evolve. I believe there’s still much unexplored potential in this character. Therefore, I’d love to learn about where you envision their journey continuing.
Indeed, that was prior to the emergence of a worldwide pandemic, some significant shifts within Disney, and alterations in Marvel Studios’ movie-making strategies. At the moment, Kevin Feige announced that the X-Men would eventually join the MCU, but it wouldn’t happen “for quite a while.” After five years, his prediction appears to be holding true. With Hoult also taking on a major part in the DCU, it seems that his opportunity to rejoin the Marvel franchise may have come and gone permanently.
